Phoebe offers valuable advice to aspiring makeup artists. She emphasises the importance of having a fresh and open mindset and being a positive energy on set. However, she cautions against becoming too focused on pleasing others and neglecting one's own boundaries. Instead, she advises knowing one's strengths and letting one's work speak for itself. She suggests that makeup artists should try to put themselves in front of people they want to work with, even if it means starting small and gradually working their way up. Ultimately, the key to a successful career in makeup artistry is to strike a balance between being a good collaborator and knowing one's own worth.

From counter to international artist.
Phoebe Fever is one such artist whose journey has taken her from the makeup counter at a MAC store in Sydney to becoming an international hair and makeup artist based in the Northern Rivers near Byron Bay. On a recent episode of the Makeup Insider podcast, Phoebe shared her story of how she got into the world of hair and makeup and the experiences that have shaped her career.
Phoebe's journey began when she was in school and was not enjoying the traditional academic path. Her father, who was a fashion and advertising photographer, exposed her to the world of studio sets and makeup artists, which sparked her interest in the beauty industry. She enrolled in a short makeup course at Three Arts College in Chippendale, Sydney, which gave her the fundamentals of makeup artistry. She then landed a job at a MAC store in Bondi Junction, where she gained valuable experience working on the makeup counter and learning from the other artists.
However, Phoebe soon realized that she was not a city girl and longed for a more laid-back lifestyle. She moved to Byron Bay with a group of girlfriends and began doing small makeup jobs, which quickly led to more work through word of mouth. She fell in love with a Scottish man and moved to Scotland for a couple of years, where she worked for Estee Lauder and gained international experience working with a different country's style of makeup.
Today, Phoebe is a successful hair and makeup artist, working predominantly in fashion advertising and lifestyle shoots. She is represented by The Jam agency, and her portfolio can be found on their website. She has also built a strong social media presence, with her Instagram handle, Phoebe Fever, being easily recognizable and memorable.
Phoebe's journey from a makeup counter to an international artist is a testament to the power of passion and hard work. She has shown that with dedication and a willingness to learn, anyone can achieve their dreams in the beauty industry. Her story is an inspiration to aspiring makeup artists everywhere, and her success is a testament to the endless possibilities that exist in this exciting and dynamic field.
