“Contemplation is seeing with the eyes of the heart.

It is the vision of one who has found one’s center of gravity in God.”

Ilia Delio, Franciscan Prayer

Sr. Ilia Delio will set our course for the year with a talk on Contemplation as Seeing and Loving. Ilia Delio was scheduled to speak at our annual conference last March that was unfortunately canceled because of Covid 19. We know many of you were disappointed. She has graciously agreed to join us online January 23, 2021  when she will share with us her deep understanding and love for Franciscan spirituality through the teachings  of Sister Clare and Brother Francis.

Sr. Ilia Delio is a very engaging speaker who has successfully reconnected spirituality, religion, science, culture and society. She understands science and religion as “two ways of knowing the world” bringing her evolving ideas about spirituality and science for the 21st century, while reminding us of the traditions of Franciscan theology. Her new Omega Center is based on the recognition, “Where there is God, there is life, movement, incarnation, becoming, convergence, unity and new relationships.” Sr. Delio has authored many profound books including: A Hunger for Wholeness: Soul, Space, and Transcendence and The Unbearable Wholeness of Being. For this talk she will be drawing on her classic book, Franciscan Prayer. “Masterfully written and intensely enlightening, Franciscan Prayer could very well be considered the essential handbook for all those seeking to pray and live the Franciscan way.

"At last, someone is redeeming, renewing, and recovering the lovely and true meaning of ‘catholic.’  [Ilia’s words] could change your life".  – Richard Rohr

Sr. Ilia Delio, OSF, is a Franciscan Sister of Washington DC and American theologian specializing in the area of science and religion, with interests in evolution, physics, and neuroscience and the import of these for theology.  She currently holds the Josephine C. Connelly Endowed Chair in Theology at Villanova University. Ilia has received two honorary doctorates, one from St. Francis University in 2015, and one from Sacred Heart University in 2020.

We strongly encourage you to join us for this wonderful inaugural event. Invite your friends and neighbors.  Extend invitations to members of your prayer groups and congregations. This is a unique opportunity to gather with a cherished teacher and experience an intimate encounter without borders or boundaries. We look forward to seeing you there.
