ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Dr. Janice Murphy spent the last 11 years working with non-profit community service boards as an Executive Director (Kootenay Boundary Community Services Co-operative; North Kootenay Lake Community Services) and also has practical experience serving as secretary and director for a non-profit society.
Over the past 37 years, Janice has worked for non-profit, government, higher education, and union organizations. During her 17 years working as a recreation therapist, Janice developed her volunteer management, leadership, and communication skills. Janice deepened her knowledge of human resource management and employment standards while completing her Master’s in Business Administration, and working as a research analyst and consultant for health care unions. Studies (Master’s in Adult Education; Doctorate in Education Studies) and work in adult education (instructing at Douglas College and Selkirk College) have given Janice a greater understanding of adult learning as well as the socio-political dynamics of program planning.
Janice is grateful to live in the Kootenays on the unceded traditional territories of the Ktunaxa, Sinixt, and Syilx, where she enjoys being in nature, kayaking, golfing, curling, and reading.
