The first major breakthrough in skincare science in 6,000 years
For the first time in human history, it is now possible to create a skin care regimen that is unique to each and every person.
That's a breakthrough because most of what we know about day-to-day skin care hasn't changed much in centuries. Eat a natural diet, get adequate sleep, drink water, use topicals to moisturize and protect.
Plato, the ancient Greek philosopher & mathematician, recommended a natural diet, emphasising grains, fruits & vegetables and minimizing meat & alcohol. Such a diet, he thought, would result in whole -person health as well as beautiful skin.
In Egypt, Archealogists have found evidence of cosmetics dating back 6,000 years. The ancient Greeks created skin treatments from berries, yogurt, honey & olive oil. In 12th century Europe, women used aloe vera, rosemary & cucumbers to clean and nourish their skin. Today, products abound that use these same ingredients in the same way.
There's no denying that the ancient advice was generally good, but not very specific in terms of individual needs. In Feed Your Skin Right, Dr Mark Tager honors the past and offers a dramatic and easy-to-read update.
He says: "Over the last decade, there has been an explosion in our scientific understanding of personalized nutrition, and how it impacts your skin. We have a host of new tools: nutritional genomics, gut and skin microbiome testing, food sensitivity analysis, inflammatory markers in the blood, and ways to assess the gut-brain-skin connection.
I set out to help people understand these tools so they can create a personalized plan that affords them skin health and beauty from inside out and outside in."
