In the YYCH Equipping Course, we really flesh this out because there are a lot of components to socialization. It is much broader than just “being social.” But in that regard, surprisingly, homeschooled children rate equal to and often even stronger in socialization skills than their public school peers. Homeschooling by nature causes you to interact with a variety of people of different ages and backgrounds, which prepares your children to comfortably embrace much more than the typical same age/same grade relationships.

I will never forget when our 15 yr-old son wanted to be a pastry chef and took the Witon cake decorating courses. I remember feeling a little concerned as I watched him enter the first classroom with the other 11 students, all of whom were over 60 years old! But his homeschooling had prepared him well! He reported, "It was great mom. Along with tips on baking, they gave me dating advice. I now have 11 grandmas!"

The YYCH Equipping Course includes a schedule for standard high school academic requirements, as well as tips for when and how to begin the college search, so you and your student will be well prepared for those decisions. All my children attended college, were in the Honors program, and received awards and scholarships. They were not the exception. Most homeschool students that choose to attend college are equipped not only academically but emotionally and spiritually for the transition.

It’s true that homeschooling requires you to be both your children’s teacher and parent, and this can add a different dynamic. But the truth is, we have seen character growth in both our children and ourselves!

The truth is most children have an area or a couple of areas where they struggle. My daughter was incredible at reading and writing. But math was a different story. She needed so much more support and time to become proficient in it. My second child struggled with reading and writing but was great at math! My third child was academically gifted, but he needed help with character development, which is equally important in the grand scheme of life!
