Art in Music City

JAN 18/ by The Wanderlust Collective /Art, Art Focus, Inspiration, Nashville, Travel

Nashville is full of artistic energy, besides being known as music city, it has theatre, and all types of creatives. It’s just about as varied as the amount of people that live here; there are sculptures, murals, galleries, museums and a constant variety of artistic events going on. It’s most likely thanks to the musical inspiration that opened the doors for so much more, and has given Nashville an incredible wealth of art of all kinds at every turn.

I love discovering new murals, and meeting artists. It's an energy I haven’t encountered anywhere else as of yet. It’s thanks to the privilege of living here that has granted me such an amazing experience. As artists we’re constantly looking for inspiration, and our surroundings certainly affect us. If I can’t find inspiration at home I'll seek out a different scene, I go out and purposely experience other things in order to find it. Inspiration is all around us, but sometimes you have to put in the work to find it.

“I don’t think about art when I’m working,

I try to think about life.”

Jean Mitchell Basquiat

Nashville is such an amazing place for new experiences, especially the more it continues to grow. Even the act of going to a new restaurant you’ve never tried before can turn into an adventure. Walking the streets, you’ll come across statues of well-known musicians of old, elaborate murals and street art, and people taking photos and being inspired by it all right alongside you! There’s music everywhere, the smell of fantastic food hanging in the air, and an electric feeling of joy and happiness radiating off of the people who are laughing, smiling, and enjoying time out with friends and loved ones. In many cases you get to watch the tourists experiencing the city for the first time, and there is nothing quite like the wonder you find on the face and in the eyes of someone experiencing that. It’s truly wonderful to get caught up and allow yourself to not only enjoy it, but perhaps remember YOUR first experiences there as well.

No matter where you live, stepping away from your studio, whatever that may look like to you, is such an important thing to do. You have to get outside of your comfort zone in order to experience new things and discover different emotions, views, and activities you might not have even thought about before.

You never know when that ‘spark’ or ‘a-ha’ moment will strike! Even just a walk around your neighborhood while making the conscious effort to absorb your surroundings can have a huge impact! Put the phone away, take deep breaths of fresh air, take in the sky and the colors all around you. Listen for new sounds and ‘people living life’. Art is everywhere and in everything. Seize it!

Keep watching.

Because whatever you SEE

can INSPIRE you.
