We often think of wine and chocolate as a great pairing, but in reality, there's a lot of debate in the wine world about how well these two play together. 

 

Despite the ongoing debates, I'm a firm believer that wine and chocolate CAN and DO pair well together... the trick is exploring which types of wines go best with which types of chocolates.

 

Nothing's simple with these pairings!

 

So, I invite you to kick off your Valentine's Day Weekend with your fellow wine and chocolate lovers as we sample six wines alongside an assortment of chocolates that you supply.

 

For this tasting, I've selected an assortment of wines, including both sweet and dry, red and white. I encourage you to be adventurous with your palate, as some of these wines may not match perfectly to your style preference, but with the right chocolate, they may surprise you! Here's the wines I'm planning (subject to change based on availability):

  • Meisters Cuvee Sparkling
  • Casa Nueva Gran Reserve Chardonnay
  • Burg Layer Spatlese Kerner
  • Cape Root Pinotage
  • Golden Grape Shiraz Blend
  • Travicello

I'm recommending you purchase a variety of chocolates from your favorite chocolatier, specialty food store, or local grocery. I ask that you have at least the following chocolates: white, milk, and dark. However, I encourage you to be creative by adding caramels, espresso, fruit-infused, spicy, mint, or other types you might find! You're also welcome to have chocolate desserts!

 

Yes, you will need to open and sample all six wines, so I encourage you to invite friends and family to join! Make it a group date night to kickoff the romantic weekend, or grab your friends and treat yourself!

 

This is going to be a very participatory tasting! I will encourage you to share what chocolates you're trying with the wines and how it affects the flavors. Of course, I'll give you some over-arching guidelines, but I love hearing everyone's opinions in chat or video!

 

You will receive all six wines ($170+ value) for just $70 delivered!

 

Obviously, it is my hope that you will learn something about chocolate pairings, find new wines you enjoy, and place an order for those wines after the tasting!

Virtual Tasting Tips

  • Plan to attend the tasting live! This is meant to be an experience we enjoy together, so show up early, get logged in, and join the fun!

  • Invite wine-drinking guests who are open-minded and willing to explore new wines! We will open all the wines, so you should have plenty to share!

  • Test out the technology ahead of time. We will be using Zoom, and you'll receive the Zoom link upon registration.If you plan to use a larger screen, be sure to test that out as well.

  • Be sure to have an assortment of chocolates ready to be enjoyed!

  • Don't forget to chill or decant the wines according to my instructions.

  • Setup the space so that everyone can see and hear me!

  • Print out the wine menu for each guest, and provide them with a pen.

  • Relax, have fun, and participate! These tastings are all about interaction, not just me talking at you! Feel free to use the chat function or chime in on video!

Wine samples will ship via UPS. A signature of someone 21 or above will be required. If you have not received the wine 4 days before the tasting, please reach out to me.
