Camp Day 4

Thursday July 26, 2018

It’s already Day 4, and the improvement is very noticeable!

The Campers were ready to start the day by 8:15am. We started the morning off with an energizing yoga class. Campers got to experience yoga to stretch and warm up.

After that, we jumped right into crate exercises to get both the kids and the dogs into working mode.

Today, Campers learned a new step to the crate exercise. In addition to the “Free” command, they added an outside turn to direct the dog into the crate. The purpose of this is to lure the dog into the crate without forcing them in. This is extremely important, because we don’t want to associate the crate with something negative.

Then, we had a lecture on loose leash walking. The Campers learned how to kibble their dogs on their lefthand side. The significance of keeping their dogs next to them on their left, is so when working in groups, the dogs aren’t walking next to each other. This prevents dog fights, and distractions.

Campers broke for lunch, then got ready for swimming. Unlike the past couple days, the kids swam with their dogs today. This can be a very stressful and difficult experience for both the Camper and the dog. It’s very important to hold their dogs correctly in the water, to prevent getting scratched.

After swimming, the dogs were put back into their crates and ready for their naps. The kids voted on going to Twistee Treat for ice cream. Once the Campers finished their ice cream and we were back on campus, we ended our day with a nap time for Campers and their dogs.

See you tomorrow!
