About Sara
I wanted to be a kick-ass, trilingual businesswoman flying around Europe wearing nice suits. I was well on the way when, life intervened with a diagnosis of Chronic fatigue Syndrome/ ME.
I was 21 and house-bound. My doctor couldn’t help. My life was ruined.
With no prospects of help from anything familiar, I began looking elsewhere. I managed to accidentally book myself a Reiki attunement, rather than a reiki session, which meant I found myself spending the day with a woman talking about energy symbols, healing and angels. It was way outside my comfort zone. She did the attunement, turning down the lights in case I had a vision, or an angel appeared, which of course it didn’t.
Sceptical doesn’t even cover how I was feeling.
But when I turned on the Reiki energy for the first time, everything changed. I felt hot energy first in my own hands, then in her body, which told me she had arthritic knees and painful periods.
My mind was blown, and Reiki provided the solution to the incapacitating insomnia I’d experienced for the previous 2 years.
I was still smoking, eating badly, feeling tired and tearful, but my health had definitely improved.
I just wanted to get back to my kick-ass business woman dream, so I started to work my way through natural therapies.
Eventually, I felt well enough to work a bit, meditating in the loo at lunchtime to help my energy.
By now, age 25, I was evangelical about natural medicine, which was almost unheard of in 1999.
I was hungry for knowledge and stumbled on a book by a Naturopath, a job title I’d never heard of.
Unknowingly, in my recovery, I realised I’d used all the tools naturopaths use:
I took a full-time sales role to check I could cope with working.
I hated it and got sacked almost instantly.
Clearly, there was a bigger plan for me because the first naturopathic college in the UK opened up on my doorstep, and I signed up in 1999.
What I learnt at that college changed my life, and now I’m lucky enough to spend my life changing other people's.
Two decades on, I’m a perimenopausal business owner, mother of teens, daughter, wife of a bacon-lover, bread winner, pet lover and spiritual seeker.
I’ve learnt many things on my health journey, some of which I’ve nailed, like never dieting again and meditating most days, and others I’m still learning, like holding boundaries, saying no and reducing alcohol.
Like you, I am a work in progress.
