Organizational Health Assessment
A Tool to Measure and Monitor Your Organization’s Regenerative Capacity
Measure and Monitor With Life
Step into the future of organizational evaluations with our innovative Organizational Health Assessment (OHA). Unlike traditional evaluation methods that focus on troubleshooting productivity and efficiency measures, our assessment offers insight into the underlying health and capacity of the organization as a living system. The OHA is a comprehensive baseline assessment tool that embraces interconnectedness and complexity to provide a holistic evaluation of your organization's health and regenerative capacity.
The OHA can be used by any team, organization, network, collaborative, community or group of people with a shared purpose that seeks to understand its underlying health. The assessment will help you identify the necessary healthy conditions for enhanced team collaboration, improved communication, and increased organizational resilience. The OHA can be completed online, and results are interactive.

Why a Shift to Health is Necessary
Traditional evaluation tools assume that organizations are vast and complicated machines; the focus is on driving efficiency, productivity, and predictable outputs. Members of an organization are treated as parts of the machine, and evaluation is often siloed and used to provide top-down oversight and micromanage.
Today's leaders face complexities beyond anything we've ever seen before, as highlighted in the Gallup State of the Global Workplace 2023 Report:
77% of employees are not thriving at work.
44% of employees experience a lot of stress on a daily basis at work.
Globally, over half of employees express some level of intent to leave their job.
81% believe the ability to "lead through complexity and ambiguity" is required for 21st-century leaders.
In the face of these challenges, traditional evaluation tools do not offer an adequate solution. Instead, measuring and monitoring for HEALTH provides a way forward. At nRhythm, we believe that today’s organizations are not predictable machines, but rather complex living systems with creative and evolving members. Measuring the health of our organizations as a living system means shifting our focus from command and control to creating conditions for health, resilience, and emergent potential to arise. Living systems cannot be monitored by only examining outputs; we need to understand the underlying health of the system.
Drawing from decades of experience designing regenerative organizations, nRhythm has developed a reflective assessment tool that empowers organizations to create conditions for emergent outcomes, resilience, and continuous development.
Consider tending to a vegetable garden. If your crops were failing, you would not blame the crop but rather attempt to understand its health, examining conditions such as the nutrients in your soil, the amount of sunlight, and the rainfall. The OHA takes a similar approach to assess organizational health, allowing our clients to address underlying issues and create the conditions for thriving, resilient teams, organizations, networks, collaboratives, and communities.
Key Elements of the OHA
The OHA offers crucial information and data, empowering you to design, manage, and monitor your organization With Life. Key elements of the OHA include:
Discovering underlying opportunities and challenges within your organization.
Gaining perspective and fostering clarity and cohesion on organizational processes.
Aligning around actionable solutions to enhance underlying health and regenerative capacity.
Facilitating meaningful conversations with a common language.
Monitoring the organization's underlying health and regenerative capacity over time.
Unleashing the organization's full potential.
While the assessment itself is comprehensive and revealing, its true power lies in the conversations that emerge from the results. By engaging with the results, organizations can identify areas for growth and development, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Through open dialogue and collaboration, teams can work together to address challenges, leverage opportunities, and evolve together. The OHA serves as a catalyst for change, enabling organizations to embrace ongoing learning and development as they navigate the complexities of the modern business landscape.
OHA Design
The OHA consists of a 38-question yes-no online survey.
Questions are based on nRhythm’s living systems framework and are asked in the following categories: Context, Structures (Decision-making, Communication Cycle, Network Connections), Work, Energy Flow, Information Cycle, and Receptivity.
All responses are anonymized and strictly confidential, with results presented in aggregate form.
Following completion of the assessment, nRhythm utilizes the data to generate comprehensive reports offering both macro- and micro-level insights into the organization’s health. These reports include scores for each category, an overall score, and a trend score that forecasts potential future states based on receptivity scores, informing proactive measures for redesign. Scores are based on a numeric 0 to 5 scale representing three states of organizational health.
OHA Reports Available:
The Organizational Report provides an overview of scores for the entire organization, offering detailed graphs and the ability to compare scores across the organization and by department.
The Individual Report offers a personal review of an individual's responses to the survey questions, providing password-protected access for each user.
The History Report enables comparative analysis by showcasing results from multiple OHAs conducted by the organization, facilitating the identification of patterns and evolutionary growth.
Initiate contact with nRhythm for an exploratory call to discuss your organization's needs and determine the appropriate assessment design. This includes selecting the OHA size, identifying participating teams or departments, and establishing timelines.
Steps
nRhythm configures the OHA on the backend for your team, a process that typically takes about a week.
The OHA launches on a mutually agreed-upon date. While the survey itself takes only up to 15 minutes to complete, we recommend allowing teams approximately two weeks to complete it at their convenience.
Once the OHA concludes, nRhythm processes the data and generates the respective reports.
nRhythm delivers the reports to the organization and conducts a meeting to discuss the results.
Optional additional services include facilitating discussions with various teams or departments based on the results and supporting further design sessions to address challenges and identify opportunities.
Pricing is tiered and discounts are available for multiple OHA's. Reach out to our team for more information on pricing structure.

What Others are Saying
about the Tool:
As the Savory Global Network Coordinator, I have worked with the nRhythm team to better understand the health of the global network since 2018. We have improved our relationship with network members, had meaningful conversations and asked hard questions as a result of the Network Health Index process. I am so grateful to have this tool, and more importantly to have the nRhythm team supporting me in my role with the network.
Our team’s experience with the Organizational Health Index (OHI) survey was an enlightening one. We are small and are spread across multiple locations, which has been a difficult element of building a cohesive culture within the organization. The progression of questions in the OHI and the way in which they are worded is quite special… and completely necessary. I appreciated the “yes or “no” formatting for responses, as it really establishes a commitment to one idea or another. This is pivotal because it also encourages you to be completely honest with yourself for the benefit of the organization as a whole. I also like that we now have evidence to describe our current existence as an organization (a baseline) and can use that information to purposefully direct our actions moving forward. I really believe our team is looking forward to taking it again, after we have made some changes, so that we can ensure we are growing in a way that is beneficial and healthy for all members.
Director of Business Operations, Zero Dropouts
For the success of a community project, there are two essential factors: getting active input from the community regarding their specific needs and initiating a behaviour change process. Addressing this complex social situation has been a three-decade challenge, with a primary obstacle being the accurate assessment of the community's current situation. Obtaining honest feedback can be difficult, particularly in impoverished communities where residents may express their needs in the hope of receiving assistance. However, using the CHI as a diagnostic tool proved to be a significant breakthrough. It provided an authentic understanding of the prevailing circumstances and helped determine the most effective interventions.
