FINDING ATTORNEY CLIENTS FOR THE SUCCESSFUL LNC

So you took a course on how to be an LNC/expert, hopefully not a certification “ course. You set up your office, placed cv in directories, and might have even bought a case management software (unnecessary).
You are ready and anxious to review your first case. So how do get those attorney clients?
1. Request referrals from friends and family.
Be assertive in speaking about your LNC practice to anyone you know. You never know who they know.
Take your business cards everywhere. A basic strategy is to explain what a legal nurse consultant is. Tell them about your services in a succinct way. Explain that you mainly deal with law firms or attorneys that litigate personal injury and medical malpractice cases, for example. Perhaps you deal with toxic torts, or employee law cases.
2. Develop a professional-looking website.
It is likely that an attorney is going to look on the internet to learn more about you. The attorney may look you up before he attempts a first call. Not having a website puts you at a substantial disadvantage. You are missing out on the opportunity to be contacted by attorneys who are searching for assistance. They scour the internet for LNCs/expert nurses, so if you are absent, you’ll miss a lot of work opportunities.
I won’t explain all the technical details of managing your site, but these days, it is so easy to put up your own website. To name a few resources, web.Com, godaddy, strikingly, and even shutterfly can be good places to start. It’s best to use your name as many LNC domains are taken or already owned. You do not need to hire an expensive web designer. You can have several web pages or everything on one page: here are some tabs i see on many websites:
3. Research the prominent attorneys in the area in which you are marketing your area of nursing expertise.
Send a letter (the old fashion kind!) with a business card or an email stating your services with a focus on how you can expedite his cases in an economical manner.
Don’t provide fees at that point. Give your fee sheet when the attorney appears to be seriously interested.
Martindale hubbell offers a free service that allows you to search for specific attorneys or in a specific geographic area. Through the www.Martindale.Com website you can search down for specific types or categories of attorneys/firms in a specific state, or region. The expert institute is another similar service.
4. Set up an exhibit table at a trial lawyers’ conference.
This may pick up again soon. I did a few exhibits and had to stop as i got way too much work. At least 20 attorneys from all over called upon me several times over years. When you do good work, you are gold to a med-mal/personal injury attorneys.
5. So, do a great job on your cases.
Communicating with attorneys on your case status as well as doing factual, superior reports, will have the attorney(s) calling on you often and recommending you.
