Steve Johnson is a career biodiversity conservation and sustainable development specialist with over 45 years of experience in the field – in executive management positions as well as in senior technical advisory roles across Southern Africa. He is known for his ‘Big Thinking’ capabilities who thrives on facilitating change at the macro scale. His deep knowledge and understanding of biodiversity, conservation and sustainable development issues allows him to work as a technical advisor and management expert with a deep passion for strengthening leadership. Through his work at the executive level he has gained exceptional skills in Organizational Development and is an outstanding executive coach based on his experience.

He is also widely known and respected for his public speaking and facilitation skills, as well as his creativity and interest in innovation.

Steve Johnson

Maxi has over 20 years’ experience in Namibia’s internationally renowned community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) programme, working with communities, government, and non-government agencies. She was the Director of Namibian’s Community-based Tourism Association where she facilitated the development of community campsites and tourism joint venture initiatives for communal conservancies. She serves on several boards including Save the Rhino Trust, and is currently the Director of the Namibia Association of CBNRM Support Organizations (NACSO).

Maxi Louis

Mike is a versatile analyst, entrepreneur and change agent with interests in policy and investment, especially relating to his two main areas of passion: nature and transformational creativity, with specialist knowledge in the application of economic analysis and business principles to the biodiversity conservation sector. His skills include policy analysis and an in-depth understanding of institutions and incentives. He has conducted detailed work and analysis on wildlife trade issues (especially relating to rhinos, big cats, and elephants). He is well known for his work on exploring innovative approaches to financing and managing both public and private protected areas.

Dr. Mike 't Sas-Rolfes

Masego has over 20 years working experience in the development and social policy field. She is a social justice activist and practitioner in the development and economics space. Her career spans conservation, environment and development. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge working with social movements. Prior to joining the Southern Africa Trust as a chief executive, she worked at the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa, where she was the team leader for the Economic and Social Justice Cluster. Masego holds a Masters in Environmental Science from Rhodes University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Science and Sociology from the University of Botswana.

Masego Madzwamuze

Jose Coordinator of the Management Unit at the CBNRM Network in Mozambique, Jose, facilitates the functioning of the Network, promoting community governance for sustainable natural resources management, and building institutional arrangement and strategic to improve CBNRM in Mozambique. He also worked at the Community Land initiative as the Knowledge Manager; and has led the land and natural resources governance assessment at Gorongosa National Park. He has a Masters Degree on Agriculture Development from the Copenhagen University on Forest Ecology.

Jose Monteiro

Doug is a specialist in wildlife management, with a background in knowledge and information management, linked to Business Transformation through leveraging technology to solve business problems and inefficiencies, as well as programme-performance frameworks, targets, risk and monitoring and evaluation. He is passionate about finding innovative ways of combating wildlife crime and improving management. His work in the Peace Parks Foundation covers all aspects of innovation, from using blockchain technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning and bio-technology to predictive analytical modelling and augmented reality among others.

Dr Sue Snyman holds a Master of Business Science and a PhD in Economics having also completed PhD courses in resource and environmental economics at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden - focused on the socio-economic impact of high-end ecotourism in remote communities living in, or adjacent to, protected areas. She worked for Wilderness Safaris, as Group Sustainability Manager, overseeing community development and biodiversity conservation in 7 African countries. Sue is the vice-chair of the IUCN Tourism and Protected Areas Specialist (TAPAS) Group and recently managed the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA) Programme for IUCN in 24 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa: building capacity to improve protected area management effectiveness, governance and equity. She recently (2019) published a book with a colleague, Dr Anna Spenceley, titled ‘Private Sector Tourism in Conservation Areas in Africa’.

Dr. Sue Snyman

Dr Nyambe Nyambe, has more than 20 years’ experience of applied project and programme work in the conservation sector, with a Bachelor of Social Science (University of Zambia) and a Masters Degree in Environment and Development (University of Natal) and PhD, University of KwaZulu Natal. He joined WWF Zambia in 2008 and rose to become Country Director, where he spearheaded strategy development and implementation, as well as integrated natural resource planning and management, and community-based natural resource management. He currently heads the Kavango-Zambezi (KAZA) Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA) program – the largest transboundary conservation area in the world, with five member states of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe – covering an area of more than 520,000 square kilometres and incorporating more than 36 protected areas.

Dr Neil Midlane, the new Group Sustainability Manager for Wilderness Holdings, reflects the company’s ongoing vision to conserve and restore Africa’s wilderness and wildlife through high-end ecotourism, and to ensure that its 4Cs sustainability ethos of Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation underpins all of its operations. Sustainability has been the core tenet of the Wilderness Group for over 35 years and remains the key driver of everything they do. A veteran of the ecotourism industry, an academic and an accomplished field conservationist, with a PhD in lion conservation and in-depth knowledge of biodiversity conservation, when combined with his background as a Chartered Accountant, he brings some unique perspectives to the wildlife tourism industry across Africa.

Executive Chairman of the Board at Africa AlbidaTourism (Pty) Ltd, Dave is a captain of industry in the tourism sector of Zimbabwe, having grown his tourism operation, Africa Albida Tourism from scratch over the last 30 years to be one of the most successful operations in the Victoria Falls area of Zimbabwe. A consummate entrepreneur and businessman extraordinaire he is known for his ‘big thinking’ and strategic vision, having played a pivotal role in creating the new macro level strategy for the Victoria Falls tourism hub, resulting in the recent upgrading of the Victoria Falls airport to take widebodied aircraft, enabling it to become a new direct destination globally. A leader of great stature and capacity he has used his influence to create cohesion in the tourism sector within the KAZA TFCA, leading to a consolidated strategy for the Victoria Falls, Livingstone, Chobe nexus.

Dave Glynn

A truly humble man of huge integrity Richard has spent over 40 years working with rural communities in Zimbabwe and Namibia assisting them to manage their wildlife resources sustainably. He is a Business and community-based natural resources management (CBNRM) specialist at World Wildlife Fund in Namibia who is known as an innovator and disruptor, he has pioneered numerous new approaches to improving community livelihoods through the use of wildlife resources. Specializing in community-based tourism and facilitating joint-venture partnerships between the private sector and community conservancies for mutual benefit.

Richard Diggle

Maxwell – Director of Biodiversity and Land Management at the UN Environment, Max is skilled in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Awareness, Sustainable Development, Policy Analysis, and Sustainability with strong community and social services. A renown ‘big thinker’ and global visionary, Max is interested in innovative and futurist technologies along with new approaches to managing wildlife globally. As the Head of his unit, he is extremely active in being a ‘thought leader’ on community-based natural resources management (CBNRM) and wildlife management issues globally, but especially in his home turf of Southern Africa.

With more than 29 years experience as lecturer in the FIAT vertical, after thorough research, studying and getting to grips with blockchain, bitcoin and cryptocurrency, Daniel is focussing on educating people with regards to the new technology and the opportunities to benefit from it.

As entrepreneur, educator and keynote speaker he strives to inspire a culture of mindfulness when utilising technology creating an environment  for innovation & collaboration.
