The story of Kokoon emerged from the founder's deep need for a new direction in life. His desire for meaningful change toward a more sustainable, inspiring and just society sparked the idea of the world's first self-retreat company.

Founder's Journey - A need for change
“In early 2020 I caught myself on the edge of a serious burnout. Covid19 had hit Australia and we had lost 80% of revenue in our business. During a walk with my partner Teresa, I broke down and had a deep realisation: I was exhausted, unhappy and frustrated!
My company had sucked the very life out of me. I’d spent 10-12 hours a day behind the computer, coaching clients, building websites, online funnels and trying to present the picture of a perfect life on social media. I needed to change.”

We partner with sustainable, conscious and eco businesses to provide a beautiful and low footprint experience. We have sourced high quality food, activities and creature comforts that are sustainably produced and non-toxic for the humans and the planet.
Transformative Experiences – A Kokoon Retreat is more than a nature escape. Kokooning is a journey to explore the best parts of ourselves and an opportunity to gain clarity, perspective and for some, even a new direction in life.
Share Joy & Love – We believe that love and joy is a universal need for all human beings, and we endeavour to share this. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and have curated an experience that is a bit playful and fun. We aim to evoke curiosity so you can explore where you want to go, grow and change in a way that is light and enjoyable.

Founder's Journey - Perspective & Clarity
“Despite having little money and a business in dire straits, I stopped all social media and most of my online work to go on a journey of self-discovery. I dove into nature, removed myself from my day-to-day grind and created the space to ask myself some big and challenging Questions.
Through the power of nature and venturing on an inner journey, I gained new perspective and clarity on my way forward. I had initiated meaningful change and a plan. I felt empowered and energised! I knew then that I wanted to share this experience with others, so they too could change their lives for the better. This insight was the birth of Kokoon Retreats.”

The People
Kokoon was founded from the desire to give every human being the opportunity to go on a conscious self-retreat experience so they can remove themselves from their day-to-day life, connect with their inner and make meaningful progress on their life journey.
Sebastian Hilbert
Founder & CEO
Sebastian has spent eight years running his online coaching business ‘Wellnesspreneur’ and is author of “The Business of Wellness”. He graduated with honors and as dux with the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, including several industry awards. Sebastian vision is "to move the world to Sustainable Wellness”.
Matthew Armytage
Board Member
Matthew has extensive management experience in all facets of the hospitality industry, focusing his talents in operations, systems, property development and growth of new and existing businesses. His skills have grown working in hospitality, recycling, e-commerce, construction and real estate development industries, making Matthew an invaluable team member.
Stephen Armytage
Board Member
Stephen has outstanding management consulting experience of more than 22 years. He is the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Gymea Eco Retreat & Spa for the past 11 years, a director of Organic Farm Share and a Director of the Murwillumbah & District Business Chamber of Commerce. In 2009 Stephen retired from his senior Partner Role with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
Teresa Armytage
Space Creation
As the founder of 'Redefined Rooms', Teresa loves beautiful and functional spaces. She is deeply passionate about partnering with conscious businesses and working in ways that promote wellbeing, happiness and balance in life.
Roland Fraval
Kokoon Koncierge
Founder of the Crafty Adventurer and an Experienced Facilitator and Creative Producer. Roland has a passion for Rites of Passage programs. He is a hands-on operator and a realist, keeping the ‘positive delusional’ Sebastian in check.
