GET READY FOR HOLIDAYS: 5 ACTION STEPS YOU CAN START TODAY
Just like the New Year, Fall is a good time for resolutions and starting fresh, and there's no better resolution than to commit to a healthy lifestyle. If you're looking to get healthy for the holidays but don't know where to start, look no further! Here are 5 action steps you can start today to jumpstart your journey to good health.
1. Cut out processed foods.
Processed foods are those that have been chemically altered or highly refined in order to extend their shelf life or improve their taste. While they may be convenient, these foods are often high in unhealthy fats, sodium, and sugar—all of which can lead to weight gain, heart disease, and other health problems down the road. To stay healthy, limit or eliminate your intake of processed foods and opt for whole foods whenever possible. Whole foods include things like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein sources, and healthy fats—all of which contribute to good health in one way or another. (EXTRA TIP: Nearly all processed food contains Oleic oils. If you want to get healthy fast, Eliminate Oleic oils, or Omega 6 as they are known, (Canola,all seed oils, and most olive oils), they have a half life of 7 years, which means they stay in your body for a long time, plus they contribute to heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Yes I am saying they are worse than sugar)
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrients that are essential for good health, so make sure to include them in every meal. If you're not used to eating a lot of produce, start small by adding an extra serving of veggies to your dinner or swapping out your afternoon snack for a piece of fruit. Over time, you'll find that it becomes easier and even enjoyable to eat these nutrient-rich foods!
3. Get Moving! (THIS IS MY NUMBER ONE)
Exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle, but it can be tough to find the motivation to get started. One way to overcome this hurdle is by finding an activity that you enjoy and making it a part of your regular routine. Whether it's going for a run outside or taking a dance class at the gym, find something that gets you moving and stick with it! You'll soon see the benefits in both your energy levels and mood. BTW, You can literally just start walking every day. Science has proven that walking (at a brisk pace), an average of 30 minutes a day, is better at losing fat than running or working out.
4. Drink more water.
One of the simplest—and most important—things you can do for your health is to drink more water. Depending on your activity level, you should be drinking anywhere from 8-10 glasses of water per day. Not only will this help you stay hydrated, but it will also flush toxins out of your system and improve your skin health. So ditch the soda and make water your go-to beverage!
5. Get enough sleep!
In today's hectic world, getting enough sleep is often seen as a luxury rather than a necessity. But the truth is that sleep is just as important for your health as diet and exercise! When you don't get enough sleep, your body doesn't have time to repair itself from the day's wear and tear—which can lead to all sorts of problems down the road. So make sure you're getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night!
