Nestor Varelas: Artist Interview

History

Nestor Varelas is an Artist and Animator from the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. I got to know him back in 2016 through some mutual friends, and was immediately inspired by his funny, short animations and drawings that depict his life experiences and inspirations.

Introduction

At the age of five he began drawing from his imagination, because his parents would not allow him to watch cartoons because they deemed them inappropriate. Nestor began drawing weird creatures and metamorphic animals from his imagination. Life got in the way and he didn’t pursue his art after graduating high school. Instead, he found himself in a dead-end job. It was not until his coworkers recognized his talents and challenged him to pursue his art dreams that he decided to go back to school. That fateful day was the confirmation he needed to take the next step in life. He graduated from The Art Institute of California in North Hollywood with a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Arts & Animation.

Today he continues to pursue his art career and work on animations and artworks. He believes that you never stop learning as he continues to develop and master his skills. Nestor believes that you must always keep learning, don’t settle, and surround yourself with people that will push you in the right direction. He continues to enjoy his animations, explore, discover and enjoy creating to see where his imagination will take him.
