International Women's Day and the power of choice!
March 4, 2023 | By Matina Singh
March is Women’s History Month; on March 8th, we will celebrate International Women’s Day! What does this day represent for you? There are so many opinions, good and bad, about this day! Just as there are so many opinions one can have on an individual.
As long as we make it about gender, there will continue to be many discussions on the topic, but once you remove the gender factor, what are you left with? Let me tell you…you are left with a HUMAN!
Humans SHOULD have the right to choose what they want to do with their body, in their life, and about their daily choices. The world is divided into laws, societal rules, and cultures that humanity can’t always be found everywhere.
In a world where small children are being ‘sold,’ where a woman has no right to choose what she wants to do with her own body, in a world where abuse is happening daily – where is justice? Where is humanity?
See, for me, International Women’s Day doesn’t only highlight the injustice in the world but also highlights the everyday struggles that women go through.
Ideally, it should be about humanity. Yet, this isn’t the case.
So, now women choose to speak up! Fight for their rights, bodies, and freedom of choice.
If I had lived in India and wanted to divorce my husband, rebuilding my life would have been hard. Society, culture, and even the law would have made it hard for me. Living in a country where women’s rights are practiced benefited me. Sadly, not everyone is given this freedom of choice.
The changes are significant when you look at how far we have come as women. I am grateful to all who have fought for women’s rights so that I can live a better life and that my daughter can have a better tomorrow.
Much must be improved, but let’s not forget how far we have come. On March 8th, I will take a moment to thank everyone, men and women, who have fought for women – cultivated an inclusive environment, and spoken up!
Gratitude is the best way to appreciate everyone who fought for us, everything that current society is doing, and all that our children and children of the future will do. We pave the path, one step at a time!
This month I am grateful for the following:
- My freedom of speech
- My freedom to choose
- My freedom to wear what I want
- My freedom to drive a car
- My freedom to go out
- My freedom to teach my children
- My freedom to make friends
- My freedom to learn
- My freedom to work
- My freedom to say NO!
What are you grateful for?
Keep mastering your self-image so that your unique light can outshine the world!
With love and gratitude!
