Pancakes and gut bacteria
11 September 2021
You may have heard that having a good range of gut bacteria is good for overall health.
It’s also really good for weight loss! If you eat the same foods all the time, your gut bacteria becomes really specialised to deal with those foods.
It’s a bit like when a factory specialises in making just one thing – instead of making the whole bicycle, it just makes the wheels.
All the machines that used to make the saddles, handlebars, gears & peddles are sold off, and they buy loads of wheel-making equipment instead.
The process gets so slick that they are producing more and more wheels every day – it becomes a very productive factory!
Just like that factory, if you only ever eat cereal, sandwiches and salad, your gut machinery (the bacteria) gets really good at extracting the energy from those foods really quickly.
Before you know it you’ll be getting blood sugar spikes from those foods, and putting on weight, even though you used to eat those foods without any adverse effects.
What’s the solution?
Eating a wider variety of foods! (yes, that includes eating your pancakes with lot of DIFFERENT toppings).
You’ll encourage your gut bacteria to diversify, which will make it easier for you to lose weight, and give you better health over all.
