Because you have an ARP, "automatic-response-program" that has been conditioned to be easily distracted and not complete a task.
This happens very easily because the technology we use every day is designed to distract you. Advertisements are designed to grab your attention. The news is designed to suck you in, keep you agitated and glued to the TV. So many things want to steal your focus. Many say this is intentional to keep you struggling to get by so that you don't succeed. So that you can't break free and succeed.
Today's technology lights up your brain like a drug keeping you addicted and distracted !
For example: I used to open my laptop in the morning and then on autopilot without a thought, I read the news. That would distract me for 30+ minutes. I would do this 2 or 3 times a day. So I wasted 1-2 hours a day reading some sensationalized crap that is called "news" but most often is clickbait garbage. Then this would also happen with social media and I would waste more time each day.
Even though I hated that I did this, my "automatic-response-program" (ARP) was programmed so deep into my subconscious, it happened without me thinking about it. It happened even when I didn't want it to.
It's like driving on a dirt road with deep ruts,
it's nearly impossible to steer out of it.
You keep falling back into the well-worn path
that has been driven over and over and over.
