Recognition of Exemplary Action within the Optical Industry.
Net Zero Eyecare currently offers three certifications to businesses looking to demonstrate their actions in sustainability. Learn more about each below.
Carbon Neutral Eyewear
Applicable for: Optical Practices / Frame Suppliers
While an Optical Practice might express a preference for accredited "sustainable" suppliers, the reality is that very few frames or lenses are carbon neutral at point of sale.
Certified Carbon Neutral Eyewear demonstrates that a Practice or Supplier has taken the initiative to account for the carbon footprint of the eyewear items they sell and fully offset that footprint via Net Zero Eyecare's carbon offsetting programme.
Certified Net Zero Carbon
Applicable for: ANYONE - Practices, Suppliers, Manufacturers, Locum Optometrists, etc.
The standard Scopes 1, 2 and 3 of carbon accounting provide unique challenges to businesses in the Optical Industry - and we take that as an opportunity to do more, not less, than you might expect.
Certified Net Zero Carbon businesses have been through thorough carbon accounting, including Greenhouse Gas emissions directly and indirectly within their control, and factor in comprehensive emissions from further up and down the supply chain, and then offset their carbon footprint via Net Zero Eyecare's carbon offsetting programme.
For an Optical Practice, that even includes offsetting the travel for every patient they see!
Certified Net Zero Plastic
Applicable for: ANYONE - Practices, Suppliers, Manufacturers, Locum Optometrists, etc.
It's the elephant in the room for an industry that's built almost entirely on plastic products. Fortunately, that doesn't mean the industry can't be a part of the solutions to plastic pollution.
Certified Net Zero Plastic businesses have been through the same rigour as carbon accounting to calculate an appropriate plastic footprint - including the plastic in the frames, lenses, and other items they sell - and offset that plastic via the Net Zero Eyecare plastic offsetting programme.
The Net Zero Plastic Standard refers to our unique GUIDANCE on Plastic Footprinting:
