Five things: how to get involved

I would like to invite you to share five things you’ve learned through a life experience that challenged you in some way. The subject can be extraordinary or everyday, serious or light-hearted, whatever you feel inspired to talk about. It simply needs to fit comfortably on the end of this sentence:

“Five things I learned from……”

The aim of the piece is to find out a little about what it’s like to see the world through your eyes:

  • How did you change as a result of the challenge you experienced?
  • What do you know now that you didn’t know before?
  • What would you like other people to understand?

Here are a few important things to know:

We’re not looking for the five most important things you’ve learned, simply five things, no matter how big or small. They might be funny or frivolous or poignant or practical: anything goes.

We’re particularly looking for positive learnings that might be helpful, informative, reassuring or inspiring to others.

The focus is on your personal experience rather than what other people have done or said. If you mention others in any identifiable way, please only share things that you would be happy for them to read and that they would be happy for you to say.

If you enjoy writing and would like to write the piece yourself, that’s absolutely fine. Equally, if you would like to share your five things in a short video or audio recording, that would be great too. However probably the easiest and least time-consuming approach for you is to do a short interview with me (by phone or Skype), which I will record and have transcribed. From this transcript, I will write up a short piece and send it to you for feedback. After making any changes you request, I will publish the piece online at www.littlechallenges.com, in graphic form on Pinterest and in full on Medium.

Nothing will be published unless you are completely happy with it and feel that it is an accurate representation of what you would like to say. If you ever change your mind about what you’ve shared, the piece can be taken down immediately at any time. Please be aware that excerpts from the piece can always be copied and pasted by other people into other sites if they wish and would therefore no longer be within our control.

If you have a website of your own, I would be glad to link to it at the end of the piece. If there are any other ways we could use the interview to help generate publicity for you or projects you’re involved with, I’d be glad to do whatever I can to help.

It was a very revealing experience. Guided by Katie’s questions I found myself able to discover simple truths about myself.
