DECIDING WHAT'S BEST

HELPING DECIDE WHAT'S BEST...

There is a fine line sometimes I find between listening to you logic brain convince you in the reasons to do something and then your gut instinct nudging you to listen.

I think for many people there is a big lesson to learn about trusting your gut more and ignoring the fear and logical part of your brain.

Good ideas may seem good in theory and on paper but don’t add up.

Your gut knows this.

However it’s easy to tune it out, ignore it, not buy into it as we are living in fear. Fear of saying no – fear that we will be missing out on something….. fear there isn’t enough.

It’s a tricky one to manage I find myself. I can get caught up in FOMO (fear of missing out) and override my gut instincts but it always comes back to haunt me.

There is always a cost. Cost of doing business. There is always a payoff… payoff for saying yes…. payoff for saying no.

You just need to work out which payoff is more important for you in that moment. And that sometimes (usually most of the time) when you are ignoring your gut)…… that decision will be wrong for serving you in the greater good.

However I believe that no opportunity is a wasted one. Everything is on the way not in the way and for whatever reason you said yes when you in hindsight have said no is actually serving you.

It may get you into action that you hadn’t been in before. May give you some initial momentum that kicks off more opportunity for you that you didn’t realise was there.

You never know.

Here is the but…..

What would you decision making process be like if you weren’t coming from scarcity. Would you make those same decisions?

Most probably not. Why?

Because you emotionally you would be feeling more resourceful towards the decision and your logic part would be better balanced to see the drawbacks and benefits.

Solution?

Slow down your decision making reaction by looking to see both sides of the outcome. *credit to Dr John Demartini’s work…

Draw up 4 columns.

Starting from left to right.
Drawback of saying yes. Benefit of saying yes
Drawback of saying no. Benefit of saying no

Complete these four columns and then moving down to a new line to do a new four….. and to keep going till you have at least 50 reasons why will help you get super clarity for what is the best decision for you.

It draws out all the drawbacks you didn’t initially see that were causing you to be a bit blindsided that there was more UP to gain.

There are always equal Up and Downs to balance this out perfectly…. doing this exercise proves this.
Then you will be in a more centred and clear space to react and respond.

So next time you have a decision to make slow down reacting and do these 4 columns. It may provide a new answer for you that you weren’t aware of…. or not.
