How to Boost your Immunity and stay Healthy over Winter

When we're looking at ways to improve our Mindset, we need to look at awareness.  When we are aware of something, we can change it!  And if we don’t change anything – nothing changes!

So in order to improve our mindset there are a couple of things we need to address – our Awareness, our Belief and our Environment.

Let’s address the first key which is Awareness. What is it?  According to Wikipedia  “Awareness is the state of being conscious of something.  More specifically, it’s the ability to directly know and perceive, to feel, or to be cognizant of events”

Ok, so how do we do that?

The best way I know and the number 1 thing that EVERYONE should be doing is to MEDITATE!  When we meditate we're simply placing our focused attention on a single object – usually our breath.  Even if you can only concentrate on one or two breaths at a time – that’s great!  Keep doing that for 3-5mins every day and voila!  You're meditating!  This simple act of focused attention is helping you to be in the present moment and focusing only on your breath = Awareness!  When our mind and body are resting in the breath we can begin to gain a better understanding of ourselves and it's the beginning of self-awareness.

Be in the present moment – which is one of the benefits of learning to meditate.  We begin to understand that the present moment is where all the action is – it is the here and the now – right now – not a moment ago.  We begin to discover that negative thoughts come from past negative events or negative thoughts – and that negative thoughts about the future are totally fanciful – nothing has happened yet – and anything that we think about in the future is totally constructed by the mind – it is not your present reality.  Therefore, there is no value in spending your present moment in negative thoughts of the past or worries about the future.  We know exactly what is happening in the present moment – which is the ultimate in awareness.

Journal your thoughts – by writing your thoughts down, you can begin to make sense of them instead of having a whole heap of worrisome information rattling around in your head. Then simply ask yourself – is this true?  Or are you embellishing an outcome that has not yet happened?  Mostly you can look at these thoughts and quickly dismiss them as being untrue. Journaling also helps to bring to light a common theme or thought that needs to be addressed.  It can also bring to light solutions to problems.

Ask for feedback – sometimes we may want to make behavioural changes after some self-enquiry, however it can be difficult to quickly get on top of these behaviours.  Asking the help of family or friends can help you to identify them quickly.  Also it helps to identify our strengths and weaknesses, helping you to have an awareness of what changes need to be made and providing you with positive feedback on behaviours that you may not have been aware of – that will help to boost your self-esteem.

Look for patterns of thought – being able to identify negative patterns of thought will ultimately start the process of positive improvement. I use a simple tool to get me out of a negative thought loop – it’s just called STOP!!  Literally that’s all I say to myself and I put up my hand as well. This is a forceful trigger to my body and mind to STOP my current thoughts and move onto something more positive or neutral.  It works every time!

I would love to know your thoughts!
