Matthew Johnson, PhD, is a distinguished professor at Johns Hopkins University renowned for his expertise in psychedelics, psychoactive drugs, and addiction. With over two decades of research, Dr. Johnson has authored 119 scientific manuscripts, including pioneering work in psychedelics since 2004. Notably, his 2008 publication on psychedelic administration safety guidelines played a pivotal role in reinvigorating human psychedelic research.
In 2014, he conducted the first study on psychedelic treatment for tobacco addiction and followed with the largest study on psilocybin for cancer-related depression and anxiety in 2016. Beyond psychedelics, his research encompasses addiction and sexual risk associated with drug abuse.
Dr. Johnson's influence extends to leadership roles, having served as the President of the Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse Division of the American Psychological Association and as President-Elect of the International Society for Research on Psychedelics.
