Guanaja Fire Relief Fund
The island of Guanaja, Honduras needs your help.
Early in the morning on October 2, 2021, a major fire broke out on the densely populated island of Bonacca, the capital of Guanaja. Most of the homes and businesses were constructed of wood and the fire spread quickly. Over 120 homes and 90 businesses were destroyed in a matter of hours before the fire was brought under control.
The families affected lost everything. Most just left their homes with the shirts on their back and nothing else. Besides the structures that burned, people lost their food, clothing, mattresses, furniture, toiletries, medicines, and more. Children lost their toys.
There were severe injuries, but fortunately, no lives were lost.
We need to help these families rebuild and get back on their feet.
The Rotary Club of Roatan is a Honduran NGO and the closest neighbor to Guanaja and has offered to coordinate donations of cash and supplies and get it to those affected in Guanaja. We have partnered with the Make it Count Foundation, a US 501c3 charity so that donation can be accepted by credit card and are tax deductible for donors from the United States.
Rotary is a global humanitarian organization with over 1.2 million members belonging to over 31,000 Rotary Clubs around the world. There are 34 Rotary Clubs in Honduras and all of those clubs have agreed to support this effort to help in Guanaja. Rotary in the Cayman Islands has also reached out to help.

Fondo de Alivio para el incendio de Guanaja
La isla de Guanaja, Honduras necesita tu ayuda.
Temprano en la mañana del 2 de octubre de 2021, se desató un gran incendio en la isla densamente poblada de Bonacca, la capital de Guanaja. La mayoría de las casas y negocios fueron construidos con madera y el fuego se propagó rápidamente. Más de 120 casas y 90 negocios fueron destruidos en cuestión de horas antes de que el incendio fuera controlado.
Las familias afectadas lo perdieron todo. La mayoría simplemente salieron de sus casas con las camisetas en la espalda y nada más. Además de las estructuras que se quemaron, la gente perdió su comida, ropa, colchones, muebles, artículos de tocador, medicinas y más. Los niños perdieron sus juguetes.
Hay heridos graves pero afortunadamente no se perdieron vidas. Necesitamos ayudar a estas familias a reconstruir y recuperarse.
El Club Rotario de Roatán es una ONG hondureña y su vecino más cercano a Guanaja. Rotary se ha ofrecido a coordinar las donaciones de efectivo y suministros y llevarlas a los afectados en Guanaja. Nos hemos asociado con Make it Count Foundation, una organización benéfica estadounidense 501c3 para que las donaciones puedan ser aceptadas con tarjeta de crédito y sean deducibles de impuestos para los donantes de los Estados Unidos.
