In Honor of the Pioneering Spirit of Our Founders

Fr. Thomas Keating and Sr. Bernadette Teasdale

The door to the mind should only open from the heart. An enemy who gets in,

risks the danger of becoming a friend.

US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, “This Morning I Pray for My Enemies”

In every crisis there are gifts and opportunities - ways to deepen our commitment to intimacy with God and one another.

In response to the Covid 19 crisis in 2020, Contemplative Outreach of Colorado offered online events for the first time in its history. This has enabled us to encounter fellow contemplatives from places far beyond Denver. In late October we hosted an event with Richard Rohr that included friends from all 50 states in the nation as well as friends from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, South Africa, The United Kingdom, Belgium, France, The Philippines, and Sweden. For those present, it was an experience of profound intimacy and deep inquiry as Richard led us on a quest to find grounding in a world where everything seems adrift. We received many calls to continue this much needed dialogue.

Please join us in a year-long journey of dialogue, exploration of core contemplative practices, and talks by contemplative  teachers we know, love and trust. Ilia Delio, Vincent Pizzuto, Mirabai Starr, Martin Laird, Rami Shapiro and others will grace us with their wisdom and challenge us to refresh our understanding and experience of contemplative living and service in these difficult times.

Fratelli tutti. With these words, Saint Francis of Assisi addressed his brothers and sisters and proposed

to them a way of life marked by the flavor of the Gospel...he calls for a love that transcends the barriers

of geography and distance, and declares blessed all those who love their brother as much when he

is far away from him as when he is with him.

Pope Francis,  “Fratelli Tutti Encyclical”

Digital Newsletter

Each month we will publish a digital newsletter introducing upcoming events and speakers along with a discussion of a universal theme or social virtue to guide us through this collective journey.  In today’s society, what has become of fraternity, mercy, universal love, charity, restorative justice, unity through diversity in creation, cultures and religions?  How can these virtues inform our own walk in life, our contemplative practices, and our relations with our neighbors?

These themes were inspired by Pope Francis’ recent Encyclical Fratelli Tutti, an ecumenical and interspiritual love letter to the world in which we are asked to join together and “contribute to the rebirth of a universal aspiration to fraternity, brotherhood between all men and women.”  The example we are given to guide us is the humble and fraternal spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.

Community Interviews

We would love for you to meet some wonderful community members here at the Center for Contemplative Living.  Each month we will feature a recorded conversation between community members new and old.

We hope you will be as inspired as we are by the fraternal spirit that is the heartblood of our community.
