Why Delegating is The Key to Scaling Your Online Business (And Building a Legacy)
We’re creating mickey mouse businesses without a solid foundation and chaotic, patched up systems that can’t physically withstand actual growth and scaling (yea, I said it!)...
The marketing gurus might have you thinking that marketing and sales is the ONLY thing that matters in business.
The majority of the content you’re fed is about that, right?
And while marketing and sales ARE important, they’re only one piece of the puzzle.
A business simply cannot have just “marketing” as a department, right?
It MUST also have:
Your systems don’t have to be complex.
Your team doesn’t have to be big.
But they need to be there if you want to build a sustainable business that helps you make a greater impact in the world.
You didn’t start your business to lock yourself into another job and to chain yourself to a desk 365 days a year.
You started it to create time freedom and to live your life on your own terms. Building a sustainable business that can run without you (at least to some extent) is critical if you want to bring that vision to life.
You need to incorporate some systems and team goals and be really intentional about these areas as you work to grow your business.
Still not convinced?
Here are the 3 key ways that delegating helps you truly create the business you desire…
1) It frees up your time WHILE also increasing your revenue
What would you do with an extra 10 hours a week?
Have more time dedicated to self care?
Spend more time creating content?
Work on your overall strategy and vision?
How much more revenue and growth could you drive with that extra 10 hours a week?
We often get hung up on reasons why we (think) we CAN’T delegate or create systems.
“Things are too messy for me to be able to delegate.”
“I can’t give up control; they won’t do it properly.”
“It’s faster if I just do it myself; delegating won’t actually free up my time.”
These are simply not true.
Let’s do a quick exercise together so you can see how you’d free up your time AND train someone effectively so they can take over that task successfully.
Think of a task it takes you 10 minutes a day to do.
Let’s assume that it would take you an hour to outline a system for that 10 minute task in order to be able to hand it off to someone else to do.
How do those two compare? How much time are you spending in the two scenarios?
YOU DOING IT
42 hours per year
YOU DELEGATING IT
1 hour this year
Start with delegating that 10 minute task, then do a 30 minute task, and so on. Very soon, you’ll have cleared up 10+ hours of your time each week!
2) IT FREES UP YOUR MENTAL SPACE
Thinking back to your 10-min task… How much mental space does that “little task” take up for you every single day?
Imagine not having to ever think about it again.
How would that feel?
Not only are you freeing up your TIME when you pass off tasks to someone else, but you’re also clearing mental space that then allows you to come up with new ideas, be more strategic, and overall FEEL better while running your business.
When you’re not weighted down by all the “little things” and you can work more in flow and in your zone of genius, you’re going to attract more opportunities, reach more people, and make a greater impact.
Yes, it takes some time to create systems, hire someone, and train them to successfully carry out the systems. And taking that time might feel like a burden to you…
But remind yourself of your goal to create a life of freedom and that this is the way to achieve that. Suddenly, taking that time has more purpose and meaning behind it!
3) IT FORCES YOU TO THINK STRATEGICALLY
When you start to build a team (even if it’s just one person), you’re forced to really look at the tasks you’re doing and question whether or not
(a) they’re done efficiently enough for you to hand them off to someone, and
(b) if they’re important enough for you to spend money on via outsourcing.
When I take clients through my Time Freedom Framework, one of the first things we do is find tasks that can outright be ELIMINATED.
Yep, you can just delete tasks off your list!
Sometimes we get caught up in the day-to-day and repeat the same things we’ve been doing for months or years. In reality, some of those things just aren’t making an impact on our business and simply don’t need to be done anymore.
When you start to outsource, you’re forced to face those messy areas and to do something about them (aka eliminate them or clean them up by outlining a streamlined system for them).
It opens you up to think strategically, take a bird’s-eye-view of your business, and start to really place yourself into the CEO role.
