Flights and travel

You can fly to one of the following airports:

Arrive at Schiphol Airport (SPL) near Amsterdam or Dusseldorf airport. Both are around 2 hours by train from your destination in Vorden and you get to see the beautiful landscape of the country. When your flight is booked and I know your arrival time, I will email you the train details and times for your train to Vorden. The hotel is just across from the train station where you will be warmly welcomed!

It’s best to arrive at either airport on Sunday before 2 pm, so you can arrive and get settled in before our welcome dinner. We will finish Friday after lunch, so you can either take a flight back home on Friday evening or choose to stay 1 extra night at the airport hotel (or visit any other city you would like to see before going home).

There is no better location than Dressage Stable Seren, to experience 5 magical days where you, in the company of like-minded and inspired horse women, can work with amazing, educated horses. You will discover how easy it is to communicate and ask the highest level of dressage when you can work together based on mutual trust and honest, 2-way communication.

Besides my own horses, Seni and Jajão, there are several other educated horses from Dressage Stable Seren that we can work with! This is really a unique opportunity!

From the hotel we can either walk to the stables (about a 25-minute leisure walk, passing one of the most beautiful castles in the region), or we can also be like the Dutch and go by bike. When it rains it will take less than 5 minutes by car to get there and start our day with horses!

De 'Gravin van Vorden' will be your home for 5 days and it has its own unique atmosphere. Playful, modern, a bit retro and green in all respects.

You will enjoy more than just a tasty plate of food. Their products are prepared as much as possible with local ingredients, and are mostly seasonal and biological. Each plate is created with care and love to highlight a fresh and flavorful local meal.

The sunny terrace has recently been completely renovated and the surrounding garden has a (small) vegetable garden, a flower garden for bees and butterflies, new planting all around and a professional pizza oven.

Sustainability is an important theme for “De Gravin”, with solar panels, heat pumps, LED lighting, recycled designs and cooperation with suppliers from the region.

Some fun facts about your temporary home, Vorden and the Netherlands!

The Netherlands is totally 100% flat!
The Netherlands are known for breeding the best dressage horses in the world.
Frisian horses come from the Netherlands (there are several Frisians at the location, so you can meet them if you want).
Vorden is in the region called ‘Achterhoek’, known for its magnificent ‘coulisse landscape’. It mainly consists of a semi-open landscape that has the character of a stage with hedges, wooded banks and walls. So every time you turn around a corner, you have a whole new view.
The region ‘Achterhoek’ is home to 8 castles! One of the most beautiful castles is in Vorden and we pass it every day when we go to the stables!

Who is Lucie?
Why should you join me😊?

When I was young, my dream was to have my own pony. We couldn't afford it, so I always looked for ponies to care for. There was no riding school where I lived, so I loved just being with them, spending whole afternoons with them in the field, bringing my picknicks. I now believe that that's how I learned to communicate in a very natural way with horses, based on my intention and body language.

At the moment, we have been divided and disconnected all over the world. We may have lost sight of what it means to be in touch with Mother Nature, other people and our deepest self. Join me in this retreat and reconnect with yourself so you can truly connect to your horse and other beings around you.

Horses teach you to be fully present. If your attention is not 100% with the horse in this moment, you will lose the connection. To connect with your horse, you need to connect with yourself first, so breathing, awareness and body work are an integrated part of my life and my lessons.

For many years I have learned from a variety of different teachers. I try to stay open to everything and then find my own way. Now I have a huge ‘toolbox’ that I can use. I think there is not ONE method that fits every horse and rider. Every horse is unique, so I do a lot by intuition and feel. The horse will tell me what he/she needs…

I was lucky to be able to spend five days of training with Lucie Klaassen. It has given me a lot of insights into harmonious work with horses. We were able to work with her horses in groundwork, lungeing, work in hand, liberty and riding, with the special bonus of also receiving wonderful body awareness training, which helps greatly, as we need to be in balance ourselves in order to get horses into balance. The motto throughout the five days was “less is more”, sometimes we just overwhelm our horses with aids, when all it needs is a little incentive, and time for the horse to respond. With physical and mental exercises to relax body and mind I felt able to let go of previously learnt patterns, and start to feel more. I very much appreciate having had the chance to work with well educated horses, and get an idea for what it feels like to keep aids to a minimum. Now it is time to work with my own horse, a very sensitive mare, and put the valuable lessons into practice. The best thing about training with Lucie - it’s also a lot of fun!

I’m coming alone. Can we be in touch before we go?

There will also be a closed Facebook group just for participants of this retreat, so you can get in touch with each other participants and share your excitement and questions before you go on this trip! Before the retreat even begins, you will have a whole new set of like-minded horse friends!

How many people are going?

It will be a very small, intimate group of only 4 people. Last year we had an amazing group of like-spirited, passionate horsewomen!

How do I get from the airport to the retreat venue?

Both airports mentioned (Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam and Düsseldorf airport) are about 2 hours away by train. When I know your travel details I will send you all details how and when to travel by train to Vorden.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is a must! A cancellation insurance is highly recommended.

What is the weather like?

April is a great time to be in the Netherlands, around 16-18 degrees Celsius. In case of rain, we have 2 big indoor arenas to work in with the horses.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you cancel more than 60 days prior to our trip start date, you will be refunded the full amount less € 500 administration fee (which is the non-refundable deposit). If you cancel between 60 and 30 days prior to our trip's start date, I will refund 50% of the amount. No refunds will be given if you cancel later than 30 days prior to our trip's start date.

We reserve the right to cancel the trip if it is not meeting the trip minimum of participants, in which case your funds are fully refundable.

In the event that Covid-19 protocols interfere (for example the destination is under lockdown), the retreat will be rescheduled for a later date when travel is possible again.

If this occurs, you will have the option to transfer all of your funds towards the future retreat dates or you will be receiving a full refund.

No refund is given if the participant is becoming ill or contracting a virus and can’t attend the retreat, in which case it depends on your travel insurance policy what losses will be covered. It is important to confirm with the travel insurance provider to what extent Covid-19 related issues are covered.
