Just because you put a new tool in someone’s hand doesn’t mean they’ll be effective, right?
Right!
The shinny new gadget will be nothing more than a distraction unless it’s used as part of a plan. That latest feature functionality is useless without the discipline to research how it can add value to your day to day routine. What’s the use of putting a smartphone in the hand of a person who’s dead-set on only using a flip phone? A great tool in the wrong hands is a waste.
As leaders, we place new ideas and tools into the hands of people daily. But, if they are met with an old, antiquated, we’ve always done it this way mindset, you might as well get ready to rumble.
Leaders always want to move something forward. The hunger for progress is in our veins. We recognize change is difficult but worth it. We take the chances. We leap blindly but with courage.
A great tool in the wrong hands is a waste.
If you want to experience a new nothing, take old thinking into a new venture. If you want to see a new something, take fresh perspective informed by past learning into the experience. The purpose of reflecting on the past is only to give perspective to the present and ignite passion for movement toward a better future.
In reality, a new nothing is just a repackaged old nothing. Don’t refresh the nothing. Adjust your mindset so you can experience new somethings. New tools are best used with a plan tied to a purpose fueled by passion. So let your plan, purpose, and passion dismantle old mindsets that could be undercutting your leadership ability.
Until next time…keep leading and being led!
