Tactical Alpinism: Mountain Navigation Course
Calls for search and rescue (SAR) within the United States National Parks (NPS) have tripled from 2016 to the present.
The top reasons...
- Inadequate physical preparation (includes heat injuries, fatigue and lack of fitness)
- Inadequate planning (includes lack of equipment, and poor route choice)
- Getting lost after phone or navigation device dying
When the worst happens and stress levels rise, you do not have the time to learn a new skill. I want you to feel confident that you have a plan to make it home safely when conditions change or things go wrong.
This takes practice in low stress environments.
When you cannot make it to the mountains, you can still sharpen your sword and build your skills. Learning and practicing the perishable skills of route planning and navigation with a map and compass builds your safety margin.
This course is built in order to enable you to avoid becoming part of the statistics above.
- Natural events such as rockfall, avalanches, wildfires, and cold weather injuries account for less than 10% of NPS SAR calls.
The online course has two different levels.
-
Level 1: Lifetime access so you can learn at your own pace and review as many times as you want. 100% Online video instruction with practical exercises.
-
Level 2: Learn these skills more deeply by learning directly from professional instructors.
- This option is for you if you have tried to learn this type of material before and it did not stick.
- You want to focus on a specific objective or goal you are planning.
Includes level 1, plus live instruction and Q&A delivered over 4 weeks.
