We give the old masters all the credit.

We study them in school, we copy them, we seek out the most famous works and stand in front of them taking selfies, thinking about how amazing it is that we are so close to the works that we can actually touch them...really, just reach out and actually touch the art.

They changed the way we view the world, they offered us new ways of thinking, and new ways of expressing ourselves.

We sit in the auditorium in our Art History classes, slides clicking by on the big screen thinking that it's all been said. It's all been done.

It's so hard to consider that there are still so many new discoveries to make, brand new worlds to explore.

But what if there was?

What if the most important art hasn't been created yet?

I believe this.

I believe that there is still so much to do and say.

I believe that the world is waiting for us to create the most important works...and in order to do so, we need to believe that we have important work to create.  We need to lean in and allow ourselves to be vulnerable, create the work that's inside of us, share the hard things, be seen...really seen...even if it feels scary and uncomfortable and raw . 

When we believe that it's all been done already...the result we create for ourselves is that it's all already been done...because we don't allow ourselves to create anything new...thinking that it's all already been done.  We make the safe work instead...the work that makes sense...the work that others expect and want. 

Stop being safe. Stop creating work that you think will make people like you.  You've waited long enough to make your art...stop wasting your awesomeness on work that is expected.  

You are a master.

You are important.

Your message needs to be heard.
