Transforming how words work, look & feel for children aged 6 – 12 years...
Hi, I’m Lou!
Together, we can rapidly transform your anxious child into a happy, confident reader and speller!
My proven approach works. It’s as simple as that, and super-inspiring. I deliver it in a way children find fun and motivating. Parents love it too. And it brings me so much joy to witness the results we all achieve.
“I really liked my lessons with Lou. I laugh and feel happy. It’s fun. It’s easier to read and spell now and I don’t feel so tired. I like reading. It makes me feel clever.”
Grace, age 8, February 2023
“I can’t praise Lou’s approach highly enough! She has changed my daughter’s life! Her strategies for getting letters/numbers orientated correctly worked wonders and the 'look up' spelling strategy is one we will use forever.
It’s like magic.”

,
If your child is struggling to read or write, it’s really hard.
It’s deeply frustrating. For both of you.
Maybe you’ve tried to help in lots of ways. But feel you're not getting very far.
Nothing is really solving the problem and getting the results you need.
They might be reluctant to read or write. And you’re anxious about their future.
Perhaps it’s causing battles at home or worrying behaviour.
You could be concerned about their self-esteem and confidence.
As a parent, it’s stressful to see your child unhappy, angry, frustrated – or fearful of the written word.
Parents who come to me have usually gone through many of these emotions -sometimes cycling through them time and time again as another attempt to help ends in ‘failure’.
They desperately want to help their bright, intelligent child, who simply can’t seem to make sense
of ‘how words work’.
They’ve tried the usual interventions. So now they’re looking for something different.
They want (and need) something that will make a real difference. For good.
I can make that difference with my unique and highly effective approach.
How can I help?
Over the course of my tried-and-trusted 1:1 sessions you will:
Discover what your child’s brain is doing to stop them reading or spelling.
Help them re-train that part of their brain, so they can read and spell with confidence.
Use a variety of tools, strategies and fun games with your child to help build a firm foundation and understanding of how reading and spelling works.
See your child reading and spelling more easily, without getting so tired or frustrated.
Take away a wealth of knowledge, strategies and ideas to continue to support them in the future.

“Olli wouldn’t even attempt reading, he was completely switched off.
Olli will now give words a go without being asked when out and about –
it’s wonderful to see his confidence developing. We were mainly concerned about Olli switching off from learning and reading. The games and strategies that we have learnt have kept him engaged and are sticking with him.”
Emma, February 2023
What do I do?
I work with you both in 3 simple (and very successful) ways – to make learning as easy as A, B, C:
It’s highly likely this will be the very first time that reading and writing has ever made sense to them!
If we don’t have dyslexia, it’s hard to understand what learning is like for someone who does.
Imagine trying to swim with heavy weights tied to your arms and legs…
You’d really struggle, wouldn’t you? Perhaps slip under the surface of the water a few times, gulp for air?
You’ll probably feel frightened, and definitely feel unfairly held back.
And all the time you’re thrashing about, you’ll be wondering how on earth you’re going to make it to the other side of the pool…
This is what trying to learn to read and spell feels like when you have dyslexia.
My approach is all about taking those metaphorical weights off your child’s arms and legs. So they can support themselves in the water and start to move freely.
But we don’t stop there. Because I won’t just help your child learn how to float and start doing some doggy-paddle.
I’ll effectively teach them a strong swimming stroke – a life-long skill that will see them make more progress in that metaphorical pool than either of you would ever have thought possible!
Let me help you re-train their brain (and unlock their true potential).
Do you dream about hearing your child read confidently?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they enjoyed reading books with you?
Imagine how great it would be to see them being proud of their writing or spelling…
How would it feel to celebrate together as they progress through reading schemes or phonics levels, writing more and spelling out previously ‘impossible’ words?
Is the vision of your child being more confident and enthusiastic about reading, writing and spelling something you’re longing to come true?
I can help.
It’s heartbreaking seeing your child struggle. Longing to help them but not knowing how.
Trying every which way to help them learn and study, but finding that nothing seems to help.
Watching them withdraw or misbehave, and feeling powerless to help...
During my 20 years as a primary school teacher, I’d always been drawn to the boys and girls in my class who were labelled ‘naughty’ or ‘lazy’. I worried about the quiet, anxious children and the ones who didn’t want to be at school.
Hearing children refer to themselves as ‘stupid’ or ‘useless’ broke my heart. I knew that, deep down, they wanted to learn; they longed to be able to read and write like their peers. But because they found it so difficult, it became easier for them to be disruptive or act out than to sit and struggle day in, day out.
I was determined to find a way to help them. So I started researching...
I came across Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and got very excited as I realised that it might hold the answer. I studied with a top practitioner, paying particular attention to how the approach applied to children with learning difficulties, and especially dyslexia. I started to blend my teaching skills and experience with this new-found knowledge – and I was stunned by the results.
I watched as these youngsters transformed from children who believed they would never read or write properly into students who were happy, confident readers, many of whom also enjoyed writing. Most importantly, they re-gained their self-esteem – something they’d lost in their belief that they were stupid.
It was so simple and so effective that I trained teachers and teaching assistants as well.
I’ve spent over a decade researching, practising and refining this process, blending 26 years’ teaching experience and Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques into a form that can be shared with parents too – so they have the tools and understanding to be part of their child’s transformational journey.
The results speak for themselves. The new-found joy, pride and sense of achievement I see in the children and parents I work with is priceless. And it continues with each new interaction...
Why choose to work with me?
I’ve been successfully working with dyslexic children and their parents since 2009.
Children love my fun, gentle and very accessible approach to explaining ‘how words work’.
Word-of-mouth referrals from happy clients have been the backbone of my business for years.
I’m an experienced, qualified teacher and Neuro-Linguistic-Programming practitioner (NLP).
I have delivered training and consultancy on this approach in schools across West Sussex and presented at The University of Chichester.
My clients include parents and children in the UK, USA, Australia and Africa.
This is a delightfully different approach for dyslexia that you will only find here.
"What an amazing transformation in my daughter’s reading! Before, we couldn’t get through a page without a fight or meltdown. My daughter couldn’t remember the same words from one page to another. She is now wanting to read, and doing so almost fluently. She has gained so much confidence. I can't thank Lou enough for what she’s done for us all."
Kate, February 2022
What does the 1:1 approach involve?
Part A: The magic
Dyslexic students don’t experience text the way others do. When they look at a page, the letters might blur or disappear or move around. Usually there are one or two specific things like this which make reading or writing extremely difficult for them. Each child is different, so we must find out exactly what your child is dealing with before we can help them.
I’ll find out what it’s like for your child when they look at text and the precise reason they’re struggling to read and/or spell.
Once I know what the problem is, I’ll be able to stop it happening and they’ll start reading and spelling much more easily. For example, if letters move around when they look at them, we'll ‘re-train’ their brain to see letters that stay still. How long this takes varies from person to person. For some children, the issue is resolved in a couple of sessions; for others it can take 5 or 6 sessions. Some children need multiple short sessions, others do better with fewer, longer ones.
I tailor each session to reflect your child’s specific needs, so they get the best results and enjoy learning at the same time. For this reason, I can’t quantify how long part A will take for your child. What I can do is promise that I'll continue working with them for as long as is needed to find and resolve the processing issue that's holding them back.
Part B: The transformation
Once the main issue is dealt with, it’s time to make sure your child has a solid foundation for literacy. Because of the processing issue(s) that previously held them back, they might have ‘missed’ some basic elements needed to really understand how to read, write and spell. If that’s the case, I’ll work with them to fill in these missing pieces.
Dyslexia can also be an emotional challenge. Confidence and self-esteem can be low if a child has struggled for a long time. If this is the case for your child, I’ll work with them to get rid of their negative beliefs and nurture a new, positive view of themselves.
Every person is unique, so it’s impossible to know exactly how this journey will unfold. As I learn more about your child, I’ll tailor the sessions to make sure they have a positive, transformational experience.
This ongoing journey takes either 6x 30-minute sessions or 4 x 50 minute ones each week, depending on what’s best for your child and the way they learn.
You and your child will have my undivided attention, as well as support between sessions via email.
To ensure everyone involved with your child's education is on the same page, phone, email or even Zoom catch-ups with teachers and tutors are included in the package price.
If you require a report, I'll prepare one at no extra cost. It might be something your child's teacher or tutor would find helpful.
All resources are included. There are no hidden extras.
It doesn’t matter where you are in the world – all sessions are delivered via Zoom.
This entire programme is just £1,500

Want to dig a little deeper?
This approach is for…
Primary age children (6 to 11) and their parents.
This approach is not...
A cure for dyslexia – this approach significantly improves the ability of a dyslexic person to process and understand text, but dyslexia is more complex than this and can impact other areas of life, organisational skills being just one example.
A ‘magic bullet’ – which will see your child catch up to the level of their peers by the end of part B.
There will be significant progress and some children will surprise us by how quickly they move forward. Although the approach really accelerates your child’s understanding and ability to read and spell, it will take time, and probably more practise once it ends, for them to be on a level playing field with the other children. That’s why I'll teach you the tools and techniques you need to support them after we finish.
A passive experience – If you can be part of the sessions, I'd love you to do that. If you can't, we will need a 'catch-up' Zoom session shortly after I've worked with your child. This weekly catch-up is where I'll fill you in on what I've learned about your child, where we're at and what the daily practice will be up until our next session.
This approach is designed to give you the knowledge and tools to use not only between sessions, but also once we finish working together.
All this for just £1,500
Common Concerns:
“I’ve heard NLP isn’t proven to help with dyslexia…”
New things are often viewed with suspicion. It’s human nature to fear change.
Doctors used to move between patients without washing their hands and when it was suggested they were transferring problems and should wash their hands, the idea was dismissed as ridiculous. It took years, and a lot of dead patients, before people began to understand this made sense and adopted it as common practice.
As a former teacher, who struggled to help children in my class, I know the incredible difference NLP can make to a child with dyslexia. And I’ve seen that it works, even when other interventions don’t.
“My child won’t work online effectively – they won’t focus…”
My approach is carefully crafted to engage your child. Having had lots of experience with children who have dyslexia, PDA, ASD and ADHD, I make sessions very practical and not too long.
I have no problem if a child would rather not be on camera, needs to fidget or move around during a session, or can only focus for short periods.
Many parents actually notice that focus and attention improves during the sessions as their child is able to make more sense of ‘how words work’.
“My child won’t work with me...”
I’ve got this covered! Because the activities are carefully designed to be more like games and challenges than ‘learning’, children are keen to ‘play’ them with parents at home. Parents have frequently said their child didn’t realise they were learning.
I’ll teach you how to make sure your child is in the right state for learning, what to do when they’re resistant, and techniques for reducing stress and negative emotions around reading and spelling.
Many parents are surprised by how quickly their child overcomes their fear of reading/spelling and wants to do the practice activities.
“I don’t think I will understand enough to help my child…”
All the activities, strategies, explanations and techniques are simple to learn and understand. As we progress, we learn from each other too. Often, parents come up with great ideas that I go on to use myself as they are so relevant to their children.
If you don’t understand, it’s because I haven’t explained it in a way that works for you. If this happens, I’ll find another way that does make sense for you.
Got a different question or concern?
No problem! Please just get in touch and ask, so I can help you work out the right way forward for you ...
Just not sure? Olli’s mum Emma wanted you to know this…
“I was you before taking the plunge.
We had been thinking about it for over a year before we actually joined it.
And I wish so much we had just jumped in when we first heard about it, as I have no doubt that Olli would be a fluent reader by now if we had!
It’s without doubt the most impactful and useful resource we’ve used to help Olli and us with his learning.”
Emma, February 2023
There’s also a stamp of approval from an associate member of the British Dyslexia Association, who observed every element of a programme I ran:
"I certainly think that NLP has a valuable part to play in the raft of recommendations and approaches to support those with dyslexic-type difficulties. In fact, it may even be the missing part that makes everything else slot into place more effectively."
Susan Mann, February 2023 – Specialist Teacher and Assessor, British Dyslexia Association
