Working with addiction is hard.
The only thing harder is working with families that are struggling with addiction.
The truth is: we weren't trained for this in graduate school.
However, you can learn how to work with families that are struggling with addiction without going back to graduate school or spending a small fortune.
Hi! I'm Kevin Petersen, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I grew up in a house of addiction.
My mom was a prescription drug addict and I started using drugs and alcohol at 13 and quickly became addicted to both. I got sober at 27, and then went back to graduate school in 2008 to become an LMFT.
After 3 years in community mental health, I started my private practice in 2014, and I swore to myself that I would not work with addicts, alcoholics, and their families because it's what I grew up with. Now it's all I do - and I've even written 2 books on the subject and co-host a weekly podcast called Family Matters.
My colleagues started referring clients to me because they had nowhere else to turn. I had a unique experience growing up in a house of addiction that wasn't addressed in graduate school; it's been the thing that keeps my practice full and a line at my door.
People always ask me what I do for a living and I tell them I'm a LMFT and I specialize in working with families that are struggling with addiction.
They'll ask me: how is your business doing? And I tell them, "It's good news and bad news."
The good news is that business is great. And the bad news is that business is great.
There will never be a shortage of families that are struggling with addiction and the truth is: they have absolutely no idea where to go.
Most families have tried talking to their doctors, their teachers, their friends, ministers, rabbis, and priests. And no one has a definitive plan on how to address their loved one that is struggling with addiction.
Now you can learn about a definitive plan that I have created and work with families without taking extra graduate courses and spending a small fortune. This method has worked for hundreds of my clients, and it can work for your families, too.
Your families are struggling with addiction in their family systems every day. And they are desperate for a solution on how to deal with it. I can show you how to be the solution!
Ask yourself: How many classes did you take in graduate school on addiction?
And how many classes did you take on families that are struggling with addiction? We both know that the answer is zero.
Your clients are walking into your office and asking you for a solution that you have not been prepared for.
Did you know that according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 110,000 lives were lost to overdose from April 2022 to March 2023.
And every single one of them had a family that had NO IDEA how to help them!

"This course is nicely designed for a therapist to understand how to work with a family that is going through a terrible time in their lives. It's tough to ask for help, but the way this is presented is a nice process to not feel alone. It feels like we are sitting in a room together talking this through." - Brooke J., LPC, Texas
"This is especially helpful for therapists who don't have any experience with addiction or any systems training." - Tanja G. LPC, Clinical Director, Colorado
"As a therapist, I felt a little lost working with substance abuse issues. I was looking for more effective tools and techniques for helping my clients overcome substance abuse issues. The Chronic Hope course offered exactly what I needed. This course provided clear, evidence-based guidance on how to effectively work with these issues, and I especially appreciated the content on how and when to look into a treatment facility. I also appreciated the focus on building self-efficacy and long-lasting behavior change.
After completing the course, I feel far more confident in my skills and ability to guide clients and their families. The interactive elements with feedback from experts reinforced key learnings exceptionally well.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this course for any therapist or counselor working to treat substance abuse and addiction. It delivers a wealth of practical knowledge and skills you can put to use right away in life-changing ways." - Gabrielle J.
"I've known Kevin Petersen and his work for years, and was extremely excited to find out about his training. Working in outreach for a substance use treatment facility, and with previous experience with outpatient addictions counseling, I am always running into families who need to set boundaries. Kevin’s system is meticulously laid out to help the counselor (or outreach person, or admissions person or anyone in the mental health field) teach a family how to SET and HOLD effective boundaries. This is a desperately needed training in our industry, and the results have already been noticeable in my daily work." - Alice M.,CCIT
