What narcissism looks like
12 February 2023
Narcissism can manifest in a variety of ways, and individuals with narcissistic traits or a narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) may exhibit different behaviors and symptoms.
A grandiose sense of self, a lack of empathy, preoccupation with power and status, attention-seeking behavior and manipulative behavior.
Here are some common signs and behaviors associated with narcissism:
1. A grandiose sense of self-importance: Individuals with NPD may have an exaggerated sense of their own abilities, talents, or accomplishments. They may believe that they are superior to others, and may demand constant admiration and attention from others.
2. A lack of empathy: Individuals with NPD may have difficulty recognizing or empathizing with the feelings and perspectives of others. They may be unwilling to consider others' needs or feelings, and may feel entitled to put their own needs and desires above those of others.
3. Preoccupation with power and status: Individuals with NPD may be obsessed with achieving and maintaining power, status, or wealth. They may prioritize their own success and social status over their relationships and personal well-being.
4. Attention-seeking behavior: Individuals with NPD may seek out attention and admiration from others, often through grandiose gestures or attention-seeking behavior. They may be quick to anger or become offended if they feel they are not receiving the attention or admiration they believe they deserve.
5. Manipulative behavior: Individuals with NPD may use manipulation, deception, or charm to get what they want or to control others. They may also have a tendency to blame others for their problems or mistakes.
It's worth noting, however, that not all individuals with narcissistic tendencies or NPD exhibit all of these behaviors or symptoms, and that the severity of these behaviors can vary.
