Hi!, I'm Dr. Heather.
I can't wait to meet you!
I help devoted pet parents find answers to your most pressing pet health questions without the frustrations of endless internet searches.
Together we can give them the better health and life they deserve.
Do you feel trapped between choosing what your veterinarian recommends, and what pet health influencers tell you to do?
Let’s face it, everyone has an opinion. It’s hard to know who to trust! You want what’s best for the dogs, cats, and horses who are your four-legged family. When their health suffers, you suffer too.
Maybe you are on a holistic health journey of your own, and want to offer that same level of care to your animals. Perhaps your pet has a chronic or mysterious ailment, and conventional treatments are not working.
You shouldn't have to choose between working with a veterinarian for professional medical advice, and utilizing holistic approaches to help your pet achieve optimal health.
When you discover how to combine diet with herbal medicine, supplements, and exercise or movement therapy, you and your animals will thrive together!!
I believe good health is our default state, and I'm here to help you find that with the animals who you call family.
I Understand What You Are Going Through
I’ve been there already! Shortly after I graduated from veterinary school, my beloved little puppy was diagnosed with a life threatening congenital health condition. Conventional medicine had no answers for her, or for me. Devastated, I began searching for those answers - and found them in books about home made diets, acupuncture, and herbal medicines.
Now I can teach you how you can do the same for your pet. I spend countless hours taking seminars, webinars, and courses; slogging through internet sites; trying different products and new protocols; convening with colleagues online and in person, all so I can bring you the very best and clearest and most up to date information available.
Together, we’ll find the best diet, supplements, and exercises for your beloved dog, cat, or horse to boost their vitality. Call it holistic medicine, call it biohacking, call it whatever you want - I’m here to help them live long and live well!!
I love helping people just like you!!
Here's what a few happy pet and horse owners have said about working with me - as well as some trusted colleagues with whom I've collaborated.
“I can't say enough about Dr. Heather. I brought my 12 year old dog Jack to see her back in 2017 or 2018 for problems with his hind legs. She is so knowledgeable and caring. She spent a lot of time just listening to everything about Jack's life, and then treated him. The difference was apparent when we walked out the door. But one thing about her that I love - my other dog is extremely shy, and not only did she understand, but she respected Marti's need for her own space even in the office. Thank you Dr. Heather for making Marti feel safe in a strange place, helping Jack have better quality of life his last 2 years (or so), and in general for being a warm, kind and wonderful human being."
“Dr. Heather got my paralyzed dog to walk again! My 3 year old dog had become paralyzed in her back end and I had taken her to a dozen different vets and specialists all over the Northeast, trying traditional and alternative therapies. Dr. Heather’s approach was immediately different from every other vet I had seen, getting down on the floor to Kaya’s level, tuning into her, going slowly. After three sessions Kaya began to bear weight on her hind legs again and soon she started walking again. Dr. Heather is our miracle worker! We worked back up to going on hikes and had another ten years of hiking together before Kaya retired to her perch on the couch. I can’t possibly overstate the gift Dr. Heather has given Kaya and me – a decade of great adventures and the joy of movement!”
"I have been doing Equine Massage for 22 years now. I have worked in MA, NY, NJ, CT, PA, and FL. Now my business is settled in NY most of the year and FL in the winter. I had worked with standardbred race horses for 25 years first as a groom and then a trainer. I bought my first yearling with a friend and gave him to a top trainer. I took care of him most of the time. He was fast, smart and loved to train. He had all that was needed for a top race horse except he was "off behind. He had the best chiropractors in the business and I kept up on his bodywork. We got him almost there but something was missing. Eventually he got too sore and I retired him. A year and a half later I met Heather. She adjusted him and did acupuncture on him....she found what the issue was. Two vertebrae in his lumbar were inverted. She actually had to go up through his sheath to make the adjustment....and he let her! She was awesome. I had the pleasure of working with her on several clients' horses and loved it. I love the way she handles a horse and has an innate ability to find the most obscure issues. Anyone would be lucky to have Dr. O'Leary attend to your animals. I believe there are no accidents and am grateful that we got to meet and work together."
"I am currently the owner of Cavallo Fine Jewelry & Gifts in Red Hook, NY and currently the owner of three rescued ponies. I was involved in the horse world for my entire life and was blessed to have had a 25 year relationship with one particular horse. I was also blessed to have met Dr. O’Leary many years ago (early to mid 1990s) when I managed a horse farm/equitation center, where I also was an instructor/trainer. I had the good fortune to retain Dr. O’Leary’s services as my veterinarian after I left that position and was able to keep my horse on my own property.Once I moved my horse onto my property, he developed a mysterious lameness. Dr. O’Learys skills as a physician have always been exemplary and she also understood the relationship I had with this horse. After many months of tests and therapies, he did become sound. But it was Heather's understanding of what I told her that helped fix the issue. I had been deemed ‘strange’ by other veterinarians and horse owners/professionals by my conclusions; yet Heather’s intuitiveness and understanding guided me into helping mend my horse. Some ailments are not wholly physical; Dr. O’Leary understands that. She also understands ‘the connection’ some humans have with their animal partners and did not judge rather listened to what I believed. My horse and I went on to spend many more lameless years together and I will forever be in gratitude to Heather for not giving up and doing her true duty as a physician which included listening to the patient. Holistic approaches are tried and true. I can only hope that others in the veterinarian world follow in Dr. Heather’s footsteps and include these practices in everyday treatments. Dr. O’Leary’s practice is one of knowledge, compassion and a true desire to help these sentient beings that some call pets, and others regard as family."

Dr. Heather's Fun Facts
I graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. I was accepted into the prestigious hospital internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY and worked as an equine vet for 10 years, during which time I trained at Chi University for acupuncture and Healing Oasis Wellness Center for manual therapy.
My first best friend was a silver Standard Poodle named Ralph; we grew up together. The next family dogs were Springer Spaniels - beautiful and athletic! After veterinary school I chose a companion who would fit into the vet truck: Jersey was a tiny 10 pound Jack Russell Terrier. I call her my Gateway Terrier!!
My husband is the favorite with our dog Jackpot. This is despite the fact that I lived with the dog before I met the man. I’m cool with it – most of the time.
I learned acupuncture because a human acupuncturist fixed my painful back, and a host of other health issues I didn’t even know I had! She expanded my understanding of health and how to achieve it.
I’m a terrible housekeeper, but my horse barn was always spotless!
When I’m not working with your animals, I’m learning a new modality, or playing with The Terriers. I’m happiest when I am with my dogs and my husband, outside, in the forest or at the beach.
When I was 21 years old, I went to Kenya to study wildlife ecology. I stayed in east Africa for another 6 months traveling on my own
Tech and mechanics intimidate me. Biological systems have always made perfect sense! I sailed through all of my practical exams in veterinary school; acupuncture and chiropractic too. I actually like school
"We are very blessed and thankful to have Dr. Heather in our corner for over 10 years, with a horse and four dogs. Shelties are high energy herding dogs that have “too much fun” at times, and get themselves into trouble. Dr. Heather skillfully releases tight muscles and relieves pain with chiropractic, acupuncture or any one of the numerous modalities she uses. She quietly tunes in to see what each dog needs. Her love and passion for helping them is evident when we observe her working on them. It doesn’t end with the office visit, as she also teaches us exercises to do with our dogs at home. We have also had more complex issues. Working with our conventional veterinarian, Dr. Heather will go over lab tests. Like putting pieces of a puzzle together, she will pick up on even the slightest imbalance. Adjusting the treatment protocol, she heads off potential problems, and helps them be the best they can be into their senior years. Our teenage dog Chester proves the success of this model by keeping up - and sometimes outperforming - our 3 year old. Dr. Heather’s seemingly never ending learning of new ways to help animals is inspiring and greatly appreciated. We feel very fortunate to have her in our lives."
I believe that Health is our Default State. We only need to remove the obstacles in order to thrive!
Your dog, cat, horse - you too - are entitled to vibrant health. When we support the Five Pillars of Health: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social - in as many ways as we can, we promote longevity and extend quality life.
As a veterinarian who looks at the world holistically, I see myself not as a Healer, but as a Remover of Obstacles. Let me point out the obstacles, and share pathways around them or tools to climb over them, so you can stop worrying and start loving on your animal friends!
