re: Painting Party

AUG 5TH/THE WANDERLUST COLLECTIVE/ART CLASS,

 PAINTING PARTY, ZOOM

This past weekend, slightly spur of the moment, we threw a Paint & Sip Party! Really it was just an excuse to get together for a brief escape and have a little bit of community action within the Wanderlust Collective, and we sure got a showing.

Even without a planned painting in mind, we still came up with a fun idea to create, drawing inspiration from artists such as Basquiat, whose theme was to “paint like a child” and Gustav Klimt, who was known majorly for his gold period...but let's be honest, the main inspiration was drawn from ourselves. The aim was to paint/draw/color in whatever medium you chose, based on your current feelings, thoughts, and perhaps even inspiration from your week and the experiences you may have had.

I think what I love most about paint parties like this is the variety of results you get from one base idea. Most decided to follow along with my quirky tree idea and I was amazed to see just how different everyone’s pieces were in the end and how something simple could turn out in such a variety of ways.

It’s also enjoyable to be able to experience the progression as a group, isn’t it? Starting with a blank canvas and building on it as a team, sharing our effort and having fun, no matter our result! Having company while creating sometimes is such a blessing, and in some cases, much needed.

The point of it all, besides community and interaction, was for you to see that even if you just start without any idea at all, something will happen if you put in the effort. The key is to just do it! You don’t have to think something grand up for you to make something grand. The important part is to get yourself used to the strokes and paint textures(or whatever medium you use) and to build muscle memory and motivation through experience with the canvas. You may discover things you wouldn’t if you had planned it out, such as fun brush strokes or the texture a type of medium has when it dries that you can then apply to other pieces. You truly never know when you fly by the seat of your pants!

I don't think about art when I'm working. I try to think about life.

If you joined in this time, thank you for participating and I hope you’ll make it to the next one! If you missed it, don’t worry, you can check out the replay and follow along at your convenience, but we will definitely be having more fun events like this in the future if you’d like to attend. Make sure you’re in the facebook group and/or subscribed to the email list to be notified! Also keep in mind I answer questions throughout the process and perhaps after, so it’s the perfect opportunity for you to ask those burning art questions you’ve been holding onto and needing answers for! If you’re forgetful like I can be, it’s good to write them down for a reference so you’re prepared once you get to the event! Just a suggestion, I’m constantly jotting down notes in my handy dandy notebook!!

I leave this post with a final question. What would you like to see in an event like this, or other events like this? I truly appreciate the participation from the group and I want to do my very best to help you in your art journey, so if you have a suggestion or an idea, I’d love to know! Reach out to me through email or the FB group and until next time, keep creating!
