Guinness Pastel Demo

MAR 2/THE WANDERLUST COLLECTIVE/ART CLASS, PASTEL

History

Why does Guinness beer taste better in Ireland?  This has puzzled me for awhile now. So I did what every normal human being would do….I googled it!   Here is what I found….

A scientific study by the scientists at The Institute of Food Technologists carried out a taste survey in 33 cities in 14 countries.  The majority said they enjoyed the pints of Guinness better in Ireland than any other country.

Introduction

I took a trip to Ireland, and while there enjoyed the sights and sounds, and one of the things that I enjoyed was the beer. Today, I show you a quick demo I enjoyed doing when I got back home.

Painting in pastels is fun, especially when you have a good subject matter.  In this short video I show you the steps I took to complete a full Guinness painting.  I did a quick demo with my pastels using Guinness beer as my subject.

“May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks. May your heart be as light as a song. May each day bring you bright, happy hours. That stay with you all the year long.”

Irish Saying

There is so much inspiration in Ireland.  While there I enjoyed meeting and drinking with the locals.  They have many stories to tell. I have many ideas for paintings of Ireland in the future.  For now I will sit down with my pint of Guinness and think about them.

Guinness Drawing

I took my time sketching out my subject. When sketching, I concentrate on the shapes as I go along defining the details, such as letters, and edges.

"Where Do We Go From Here?"

There is inspiration all around us, and you don’t have to get on a plane to find it.  You can take walks thru your neighborhoods, watch movies, hear stories from your elders.  I encourage you to sit down and look for the simplest subject you can find and tell a story with it like I just did.  You will be surprised with what you do. I love to hear from my students. Leave a comment and most of all share what you have done.
