ABOUT CROM MUAY THAI
I’m Chris Romulo, a retired professional Muay Thai champion, speaker, author and coach. I’m also a first generation Filipino-American/ NYC native, husband and father.
Muay Thai saved my life 30 years ago when I was a young knucklehead coming up in Queens Village and I’ve been paying it back ever since.
I started training and competing in the mid 90’s when Muay Thai was virtually unheard of on the East Coast. I was mentored by Sitsutam Muay Thai, Ultimate Gym and Jason Strout of Church Street Boxing Gym.
Through my time in the sport, I was blessed to capture 5 Amateur titles (including a bronze medal at The IFMA World Championships in Thailand in 2004) and professionally, I was crowned the 2010 WKA Professional North American Champion.
My passion for the sport guided me to share my knowledge and open up the first combat sports gym in Rockaway Beach NYC, alongside my wife Sarah and sharing the motto that; All it takes is heart.
Over our ten years there, we ran a Muay Thai academy for kids, teens and adults in our community.
With the desire to give back to kids like myself, we started a scholarship program, with the help of the non-profit organization, The Muay Thai Project, for the at-risk youth in our area.
In an effort to further expose the sport, we hosted a number of sanctioned amateur Muay Thai fight shows, Battle Rock Promotions, that brought in talent from up and down the East Coast.
In addition, I’ve worked closely with the Wounded Warrior Project helping our veterans gain mental and physical strength through Muay Thai.
I love sharing my passion for the sport, not only by teaching but through writing my book: Champions Uprising, refereeing events and spreading the Champ Up mindset of Fall 7 times, Stand up 8.
