Are you really listening to your child/teen?
We all listen, albeit selectively at times.
Listening is an important skill that helps you connect with your child/teen, especially when they are stressed or anxious. Deep listening to our children/teens requires parents to set aside time to listen and be mindful of the child/teenager, being at the same eye level as the child/teen, listening without interrupting, acknowledging his/her feelings and encouraging him to share openly without judgement or criticism.
One of the things that parents can do to help children or teens who are stressed and anxious is to listen deeply without interrupting, judging, criticizing or even offering solution.

Does Your Child Belong to You or to God?
That was the question asked by Andrew Soong, a behavioural analyst, to nearly 20 parents gathered at Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary last month. There was a noticeable shift in the room, as a flurry of answers came from all directions.
“My children belong to me!” exclaimed one parent.
I think 50 - 50. 50% belongs to me, the other 50% belongs to God,

Valuable Takeaways from Raising
Emotionally Resilient Children
As parents, we all want our children to be happy, healthy, and resilient. But amidst the rising statistics of mental health issues in youth, what can we as parents do about it?
In a bid to answer this, Catholic Family Life (CFL) recently organised an online talk titled “Raising Emotionally Resilient Children”. The talk conducted by Dr Tan E-Ching, a physician of 20 years and a mother of three, shared expert tips to the more than 70 parent attendees. The tips centred on the need for parents to play the pivotal role in influencing the emotional development of children in their day-to-day lives. . .
Wow! Looks like we parents have to learn to practise this ourselves, (before) practising this on the kids.

5 Tips to Easily Motivate Your Child for Success
More than 20 participants attended the virtual talk, 5 Tips to Easily Motivate Your Child for Success, on 19 January 2023.
Andrew Soong, a behavioural analyst with more than 15 years of experience, shared his reflections as a father of two adult sons. He described parenting as “a journey, rather than a destination”. He emphasised the importance of investing time and effort to “inculcate the right values in our children from young as they will become the parents of tomorrow” . . .
What values would you like to impart to your children so that they can grow up to be confident and successful adults?
Values form the very core of a person’s being and become the
foundation of moral beliefs.

Fun & Great Time for Family Bonding
It was indeed an afternoon of fun for more than 100 participants who came for the Prawning & Fishing Event held at Fish@AMK, The Grassroots Club, on 2 January, a day before most children head back to school for a new school year.
Kids were thrilled as they tried catching the longkang fishes. Some older kids also joined in to help their younger siblings . . .
The event is good for family
bonding. We like that there are
many different activities for families to try, especially for young kids.
They enjoyed the fish spa
and long Kang fishing.
