Creating safe and healthy work environments through biological safety consulting and services.
Controlled environments - healthcare, research, life science and pharmaceuticals.
The valid assessment of exposure levels, demands a detailed understanding of several scientific disciplines including; industrial hygiene, chemistry, analytical chemical monitoring and the implications of chemical exposure. Biosafety has the in-house capabilities to cover this range of work.
Further, we consider several factors to achieve valid exposure assessments including; defensible hygiene testing protocols, locations of sample collection points, appropriate sample collection numbers, the use of monitoring sensors with their “errors and blind spots” and appropriate “third-party” chemical analytical techniques. We create a program that applies to your specific site, to allow the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders.
Assessment includes a full review of the chemicals in the location and their possible interactions. Assessment of; ventilation systems, likely exposure modes, the available literature and regulatory requirements is done. In some cases, if monitoring data has not been collected over time, pre-testing to determine the actual chemical hazard, is required. Once the general levels and identity of chemicals are established, a test and measurement process is recommended/conducted, then the results compared with existing exposure levels.
A variety of reliable sources for critical information and values exist, including Worksafe Australia, OSHA, EPA, NICNAS. In most cases, these authorities list exposure values as a time-weighted average (TWA) and short-term exposure limits (STEL). In unusual instances where values do not exist, we can relate similar compounds and give interim working values.
Finally, Biosafety supplies a report of findings, interpretation of the results and recommendations; to eliminate, control, or mitigate the impacts of adverse exposure risks.
We are dedicated to assisting you in making your site safer through a scientific process. Our work is confidential and balanced. Our team has a strong focus on practical solutions and genuine regard for the health of your personnel. Exposure topics can easily become highly emotionally charged, our work takes the emotion out of these topics, replacing it with facts, demystifying the technology with clear, practical, explanations.
