If they were in school
If your child is in Year 2 (typically aged 6-7), they’re now settling into the rhythm of primary school and building upon everything they’ve learned in Reception and Year 1. Year 2 is a bit more structured, with a stronger focus on developing core skills in English, Maths and other subjects, but it’s still designed to be engaging, hands-on and fun. Think of it as preparing them for the next big step—Key Stage 2 (which starts in Year 3)—while keeping their curiosity and love of learning alive.
Keep screen-time to a minimum, because it leads to addictive personalities and impairs overall development.
Learning in Year 2
Your child will have slightly longer, more focused lessons—typically 30 minutes—covering:
Physical development is still key, with handwriting practice, fine motor activities and PE sessions supporting coordination and strength.
Social and Emotional Growth
Year 2 is a big year for building friendships, teamwork, emotional resilience and problem-solving skills. Children also start taking more responsibility for their learning and independence.
At the end of Year 2, children take KS1 SATs in English and maths, but these are kept low-pressure. The focus remains on making learning engaging while preparing for the transition to Key Stage 2.
Our Foundation Stage Framework
You can recreate this structured learning environment easily at home with our Year 2 program.
The ready-made timetables remove the guesswork of what your child should be learning and doing each day. This will help you to support their academic, social, emotional and physical development. With one-to-one guidance from you, it will allow your child to stay ahead of the curve with ease throughout the year. Ensuring they reach the expected standards of the SATs Tests, which they should be able to take in the Summer Term.
Everyday home activities can be turned into learning experiences using this program. This makes homeschooling a viable option where your child gets the benefits of school-life at home, without the risk of falling behind, provided it is followed as shown.
