What are the Chakras?
During my mid 20’s, I was first introduced to the concept of the body having/being energy that can be in or out of alignment while reading Louise Hay’s landmark book Heal Your Body. It made sense to me, and I felt pulled to explore Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs to help with severe fatigue.
My Chinese doctor spoke in terms of qi (chi), our life force and meridians, which are energetic passageways in the energetic body.
Our bodies have twelve main meridians that pass through the top layer of skin and fascia and through which our qi flows.
During the assessment, she would identify meridians that were “blocked” and place the acupuncture needles there to stimulate the flow of qi. With weekly treatments, I began to feel better and combined these treatments with the inner work I was also doing, namely therapy and trauma support groups.
Chakras are energy centers within the human body that help to regulate all its processes, from organ function to the immune system and emotions.
Several decades later, I learned about the seven lower Chakras during my yoga teacher training. Yogic teaching refers to the life force as “prana” and focuses on our chakras. Like meridians, the chakras are also part of our subtle body energy.
These energy centers run vertically along the spine from the base or root up to the crown of the head. They spin in a clockwise direction and open and close like the petals of a flower, governing our physical and emotional states.
We can more directly influence the balance of our chakras in a variety of ways, using visualization, meditation and movement.
I have personally taken and taught many yoga and meditation classes focused on chakra balancing. It feels like the perfect foundation on which to build.
During The Catalyst 7-week series, you will be guided through chakra balancing practices to support the other healing processes in the series.
