The changing face of retail
The exponentially accelerating warp-speed pace of technological progress and the incredible breadth of knowledge needed to succeed can slow the growth of some of the best brands out there.
But the changes we witness on our high street are far more complicated than our favourite retailers shifting their focus to e-commerce, or consumers preferring the ease of ordering online to battling shopping centres and car parking.
Consumers are increasingly attracted to a new breed of retailer, powered by the Shopify platform and some of the brightest minds, most trailblazing brands and most advanced technology in the country.
And most of our favourite high street brands can only hope that they’ll be able to keep up.
The opportunity for you
As traditional retail struggled and the high street lost nearly 118,000 jobs according to the Centre for Retail Research (CRR), Shopify merchants helped to generate 112,780 new jobs in the UK in 2020 as the pandemic drove business owners online.
These brands are spawning entire new industries and careers, as well as having a positive trickle down effect on the British economy. The rewards for brands that get it right – think Beauty Pie, Glossier, Charlotte Tilbury, Huel, GymShark and others – have added millions or billions to their top and bottom line.
