Your life sucks, and you don't even know it.
I always knew I wouldn’t spend my whole life working for someone else.
I had no idea what I was going to do with my life, but the idea that someone could dictate:
for the next 40 years of my life, would truly upset me.
I finished a degree to work an administration job in an office but never used it.
Instead, I’ve spent years cleaning houses, offices and gyms, serving people in restaurants and customers in shops, or washing dishes.
I didn’t know how to build and run a business and that’s why I never made enough money as a Personal Trainer to sustain an income that would allow me to live well.
Working as a Personal Trainer for another gym wasn’t an enjoyable experience because I had a hard time agreeing with the approach to movement and people most gyms were promoting.
Which was highly money-oriented and very shallow.
There wasn’t a single job or boss out here in the world I truly wanted to work for.
So I was left with one last option:
Create my own job.
Choosing Freedom.
Two years ago, I decided to leave my life in London to move back to my home country, Switzerland.
This time, I learned from my mistakes and spent most of my time and focus on learning and developing the skills required to start building and growing a business.
I found a side job that allowed me to earn a stable little income and pay the most important bills (rent and health insurance).
My vision didn’t change, but this time I was determined to make it real.
I was going to achieve freedom on all levels.
This weekend, I went away to the south of Switzerland with a friend.
I spent 3 days away from working and creating.
Whilst my friend (and most of the people around me) look forward to the weekend or coming holidays and drag themselves to go back to work on a Monday morning, I couldn’t wait to be back home to write this letter, watch people move through my personal training sessions and finish building my new online course that is coming out next month.
There is no distinction between work and my life.
Because my life is about creating (“my work”) and what I create keeps making my life (and other people’s lives) better.
I spend a lot of time by myself, learning from people who inspire me and live the same kind of life I live.
A life where progress, financial abundance and freedom are just a by-product of the value we are able to create.
I often speak about creating a life for myself that keeps getting better and better.
AKA, the good life.
Today, thanks to technology and the internet, the good life is accessible to anyone.
Yourself included.
Because I spend most of my time surrounded by people whose lives are similar to mine, I forget how restricted and controlled most people’s life is.
The majority of us arrange our lives around a job.
The work you do every day is mostly motivated by the paycheck you will get at the end of the month.
And because your paycheck is the same every month, you can only do so much with that money.
The experiences you can have are limited to the amount of your income and the time that you have available.
You don’t know that your life sucks because you can’t imagine how good your life could get.
You can’t imagine living a life where who you are is all you need to create value and help people.
You don’t know what it feels like to not “have to go to work on Monday” because you don’t have a boss anymore.
Your job takes most of the time out of your day.
And most of your time out of your week.
How much time is there left for you to
You are right, not much at all.
I want you to ask yourself if this is what you want to do for most of your life.
If the answer is (honestly) yes – then good for you darling.
If the answer is no – then we seriously need to start changing things up.
How should you do that?
You have to start choosing yourself.
The path to the good life
I would be lying to you if I told you that there is a shortcut to achieving freedom on all levels.
There isn’t. It’s a lifelong process that involves a complete perspective shift because we are turning you and your life into a project.
Imagine you have the project of building your dream house.
To go from the house that only exists in your mind to you sitting in your actual living room you need 3 things:
If you commit every day to applying these 3 steps to your house project, you will make your dream house your reality. It might take 1 or 2 years, but it will come true.
If you start but stop being consistent with your house project or worse, you never start, you will never wake up in your dream house.
The more time you dedicate to your house project, the quicker the dream house will become a reality.
Right now, you are spending most of your time working for your boss and wasting the rest of your time away with Netflix, social media, superficial relationships or partying on the weekend.
How long do you think your house project will take if you keep entertaining everything but the most important project of your life?
The first step to creating a better life for yourself starts with choosing yourself.
This means that you have to become very (and I mean VERY) intentional with what you do with the little time you have outside your working hours.
Every time you say YES to Netflix, go out or scroll on Instagram, you say NO to your dream house (which is our analogy for your life project).
There might not be a shortcut to creating the good life for yourself, but there is a shortcut to learning how to choose yourself.
Strong boundaries, self-respect and a deep level of self-love are the most important foundations that will allow you to access the good life.
I teach all of this in my Cohort Based Self-Love Course CHOOSING ME which starts next month. If you want to be part of it, enroll here.
In next week’s letter, we will learn how to create a vision for yourself and how to translate that into actionable steps.
In the meantime, allow yourself to start dreaming again.
You don’t have to accept the house society has put you into.
You are absolutely right for wanting to create your dream house instead.
Because it is possible.
I will see you in next week’s letter.
Until then,
Take care.
