Learning Objectives
Historical figures in play therapy may feel far away, but their views and findings impact our practice today!
Join us in this dynamic (not boring!) presentation as we delve not just into the works of prominent play therapists, but also into the writings of educators and other important “players” across centuries and world regions.
This is a history training covering multiple theories, including Psychoanalytic and Child-Centered as well as lesser-known ones like Release Play Therapy and Relationship Play Therapy.
You’ll leave with a new understanding of how modern play therapy is shaped by generational and cultural views of childhood and play.
Training Objectives
Describe earlier generations' views on play and how this relates to modern understandings of play and play therapy.
Identify the four major historical movements of play therapy.
Explain the importance of play therapy history and how it impacts our play therapy work today.
