Live and interactive, online group coaching course for parents to reconnect with their children so they can look forward to better relationships and happy family gatherings based on the book Journey to Safe Harbor by Rev. Betsy (Elizabeth Jacks Scott).

The author sets out a path to transform the relationships between parents and their grown children by redefining love. The course is an eight-part online course consisting of eight coaching videos, a weekly online group gathering with a coach, suggested exercises and a reading list.

Week 1

What is your vision? What kind of relationships would you like with your children?
Where are you now? What is happening now with your children and you?
Imagine the bridge to go from where you are now to where you would like to be.
An answer may be that it is not about the children.

Week 2

What is the bridge?
Redefine Love as a presence, an affirmation, a union.
Go into each of these ideas and imagine how they could apply to their situation and change
Your relationships.

Week 3

Exploring the Family Tree
Look into your own background to see what trends have come down through the generations.
What are five things your own parents did and how did they affect you?
What are five words you have used with your own children?

Week 4

Continue to work on the family tree.
How would you describe your relationship with your parents?
When were you happy to be with them?
What didn’t work?
What did they do that you would like to copy?

Week 5

What about your feelings? Let us sit quietly and write down what is inside of you.
How do you feel?
When you get mad what is the thought inside of you?
The most important part of change is coming to terms with your own feelings.
A key concept: We need to learn to fully love ourselves before we can love another. Having compassion on ourselves is the key to being able to have compassion on the other.

Week 6

Speaking-up.
Here’s the chance to start writing letters to those with whom you want to have better relationships but please do not mail them.
Let’s get out on a piece of paper all that is in your head and heart.

Week 7

Begin planning a time to meet with your children and have a conversation.
This needs to be carefully planned. What do you plan to say?
What are your expectations?
What do you think will be the result? Try being a stance of unconditional love with your children.

Week 8

Wrapping-up and evaluating how things have changed and what you still want?
If you truly change, your children will change in response to you. Take a stand for reconnecting families.
We are not meant to be alone but in community and it takes loving yourself so you can love another.
