Mysterious six-winged Angel from the Hagia Sophia re-colored. There are four of the Seraphim Angels surrounding the dome. This one is my favorite one because it looks like a dancing or whirling Angel to me.
I re-colored the wings to be more red and blue because I suspect that centuries of water damage corroded the minerals.
This is some Photoshop magic. I started with an incomplete six-winged Angel and made it whole to be able to see all six wings. The original painting is in a museum in Moscow.
I really liked these carvings of Seraphim Angels in Moscow inside a small church on the Red Square.
There were in fact two carvings, but I did not get a good photo of the second one, so I just mirrored the same Angel to recreate the dynamic of two.
This one is inspired by one of my favorite six-winged Angels from St Paul's Cathedral in London (Color-enhanced).
Here another image from my photo roll from my trip to Moscow.
I cropped these mysterious six-winged angels from a photo of an ancient drawing I took in Moscow.
I really like this six-winged Angel a lot because his facial expression almost appears like smiling. Normally, the ancient depictions of Seraphim Angels show a relaxed face that seems to transcend any emotions. I isolated this one from an old painting I saw in a museum in Moscow.
This is the top-part of a rug that was shown for years at Saint Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. It is such beautiful, intricate artwork. The flaming six wings always inspired me. Unfortunately, the rug is no longer on display.
I was sent a photo of a Seraphim Angel that was depicted inside a church in Armenia. It inspired me to create this Photoshop version.
I cropped this Seraphim Angel from a photo I was sent by one of my students. This was either taken somewhere in Armenia or Georgia. It was a larger red velvet banner that I reduced to just show the intricate Seraphim Angel stitching.
Another mysterious six-winged Angel I saw as part of an entrance gate in Moscow. One had to walk through the arch with two of these Angels hovering above. We often find Seraphim associated with entrances, doors and gates. The underlying idea is that the Seraphim have a purifying power and if you walk through an entrance that is flanked by Seraphim Angels you are receiving a cleansing, clearing and purification.
I cropped these two six-winged Angels out of a photo I took of a historical painting that is on display in a museum in Moscow.
Two six-winged Angels that I saw at St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. I cropped the Angels angels, paired them and did some Photoshop adjustments.
Often, the six-winged Angels are above doors. I took this photo at St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. I mirrored it primarily to fill the remaining space to make it a square.
Two six-winged Angels. I took this photo somewhere in Moscow. This intriguing corner painting was pretty high up, that's why the fuzzy quality.
A six-winged Angel above the entrance to the Mission Dolores Basilika in San Francisco.
Another depiction of a six-winged Angel that I found here in San Francisco at St. Ingantius Church.
This photo of a Seraph was sent to me. I believe it was taken somewhere either in Georgia or Armenia. I have no further details. I hope you enjoy it :-)
