APEX Nutrition
19 Video Modules Divided Into Three Sections
Nutrients
Calories
Calorie is probably the most used term in nutrition science, but very few understand what it actually means. Calorie is actually a physics term and 1 calorie is defined as the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C. But what does energy have to do with food?
Proteins
Protein is one of the most important nutrients in all human biology. When the goal is to build or maintain muscle and help your body burn more fat, protein is a priority. How much is enough and how much is too much?
Protein Sources
Once you've learned how much protein you should be eating, we delve into the various sources of protein. Not all sources are created equal!
Carbohydrates
Proper nutrition is imperative to a healthy lifestyle. The foods we eat affect everything, from our physical to mental health, so it’s no surprise that it also has effects on our stress levels.
Fats
Time to talk about fats. This is a critical topic because fats provide more than twice the calories as other macronutrients, and where you get your fat calories matters greatly. There are good fats and bad fats. In this module we consider the differences in fats and where to find the "good" ones.
Fiber
Although fiber is not considered a macronutrient, we will devote a separate chapter to it due to its critical role in our health and metabolism. It is far more important than we've recognized thus far. We dig deeper in this module.
Water
Water is necessary for your body to function. Approximately 60% of an adult's body weight is water. Drinking too little or the wrong types of fluids can have a significant impact on your health, appearance, and metabolic function.
Micronutrients
Micronutrients include vitamins and minerals. Which ones do we need? How much of each? Where do we get them? Should we take supplements? It is all covered in this module.
Nutrition In Practice
Kitchen Setup
In this module, we'll give you some pointers on how to set yourself up for long-term success. Because you might be preparing your own meals and spending a lot of time in your kitchen, we'll start there.
Reading Food Labels
To eat healthy and achieve your diet goals, you must first understand what you will purchase and consume. This means you must be able to read food labels and nutrition information on packages and menus.
Meal Prepping
Because our goal is to help you achieve lasting success in your health and lifestyle, we should discuss practical ways to do so. A priceless habit you should develop is meal preparation. Meal prepping isn’t only about the food, but it is actually a much deeper philosophy.
Meal Timing and Frequency
Meal planning is one of the most important skills you should learn if you want to achieve long-term success. What do we mean by that? It is basically how often, at what times, and how regularly you eat.
Eating Out
Eating planned meals at home is much easier, but what about eating out? Or on a trip? This proves to be a big issue for many. That’s why we’ll go over this topic in this chapter.
Controlled Cheating
One of the most misunderstood concepts in dieting is indulging or "cheating." The method presented here may be the key to your success if you learn and master it. Most of us have struggled with emotional eating at some point in our lives.
Making Healthy Eating Into A Lifelong Habit
Everything you learn about nutrition and making healthy food choices won't help you if you can't make it a consistent, lifelong habit.
Extras
Alcohol
What about alcohol? Is it okay to consume? If so, how much? Are there differences in the type of alcoholic drink? What are the risks?
Artificial Sweeteners
You've probably heard that artificial sweeteners are bad for you. You've probably also heard that sugar is unhealthy. There is no need to use either, but what if you enjoy your sweet taste and don't want to give it up entirely?
Eating To Lose Weight
This chapter is about the most talked about topic in nutrition — how to eat to lose weight. It is important to avoid common weight loss pitfalls and to eat in such a way that your weight loss is as effective as possible.
Common Challenges
It's time to look at some of the most common issues that people encounter when changing their diets and nutrition. If you're like most people, you'll run into some difficulties.
