Meet Thomas Engberts

Read the story of a skinny, un-athletic weak kid who became a physical therapist and helped dozens of athletes and regular people recover from their injury faster than they thought possible, and go back to their sport or hobby stronger than before their injury.

Get to know Thomas, and understand why the injury-fixer methods work as well as they do:

Hi there,

My name is Thomas Engberts, and I'm here to help you get rid of your pain, get stronger and get back to your favourite sport or hobby again, as soon as possible... AND for the long term.

But why should you listen to me?

Let's start with some of the reasons why maybe you won't want to listen to me:

1) I look young. I'm 29 years old when I'm writing this, but every now and then I still get mistaken for a high school kid. If that bothers you, and you only want to listen to grey-haired people, then you can stop reading right here (Until I get grey hair, which I hope won't happen for at least another decade or two)

2) I'm not wearing a white coat, and I don't work in a hospital or other 'clinical' looking place. I became a physical therapist because of my passion for sports and training, NOT because I wanted to be in a hospital.

I walk around in shorts and t-shirt most of the time (we're in Thailand after all), so I can actually show you the exercises that will help you get pain-free and strong again.

If that's not OK with you, and you expect to see someone in a white coat with a stethoscope, don't call me because you'll be disappointed.

I'm a regular down-to-earth guy just like you, who happens to be good at fixing injuries and making people strong, healthy and pain-free.

Still Here?

Great, the fact that the above didn't scare you away, means we might actually be able to work together.

But first, let me tell you how I got into this field:

As a kid, I was always skinny and weak. At 13 years old, I had enough of it and decided to start lifting weights to become bigger and stronger.

Unfortunately, I didn't make much progress in the first 4 years I trained. Instead of giving up though, this led me to become passionate about learning everything I could about strength training.

After high school, I decided to study physical therapy so I could learn even more about the human body and how to make it stronger.

At first, I wasn't really interested in fixing injuries... I just wanted to learn how to get bigger, stronger and faster!

My plan was to become a strength coach, and simply be the best one out there... And I figured if I became a physical therapist, I'd know more than all the other coaches and trainers  [:)]

However, after a few years I discovered I also had a bit of a 'gift' for fixing injuries...

Nothing spiritual or anything like that, but simply because of my quest for strength and athletic performance...

It lead me to look at everyone (including YOU) as an athlete... wether you're a 16 year old rugby player or an 80 year old grandma.

You see, the more efficient your body is, the better your performance will be, and...

...You'll have less strain on your joints and muscles, thus less pain!

Where other physio's, doctors and chiropractors typically just look at the injured joint, I view an injured body as a high level mechanic would look at a Formula-1 car:

If something is breaking down, it's probably because there is a weakness, tightness or misalignment somewhere else.
In fact, I did my graduation assignment on the relationship between shoulder pain and mobility/stability in the opposite hip! During my studies, most of my fellow students as well as the teachers kind of brushed this way of thinking off...

But when I started working, I was able to fix people who had been getting 'traditional' treatment for a long time

Simply by not just looking at the injured joint, but by finding the real underlying cause, which usually is in the joint above or below the injury.

Anyway, over the last 6 years I've been working in Bangkok, Thailand, with a lot of high school athletes but also 'regular' people who sit behind a desk all day. Recently I moved to Phuket (although I still go back to Bangkok on a weekly basis too) and again work with high level athletes as well as retirees and 'regular' people.

You can see some of their results on this page and on the 'success stories' page on this website.

I'm not putting those up to impress you, but to impress upon you that my methods work.

If you'd like to get more information about my methods, you can get a free copy of a little booklet I wrote: "The Ultimate Guide To Fixing Your Injury".

In it, I describe the 4 steps you need to follow in order to fix your injury fast and for good.

You'll also discover:

  • Wether or not you should ice your injury (hint: it's not what you think)

  • How to quickly and easily kickstart the healing process

  • If there is a specific tightness somewhere that caused your injury

  • Which muscles are most important to strengthen (even more important than the actual injury itself!)

Some more personal info about me:

I'm a country boy from the most northern province (and perhaps the most beautiful, although some might argue otherwise) of the Netherlands: Groningen.

I grew up in a little town called Grijpskerk, and went to Hanze University in Groningen to study physical therapy. I 'emigrated' to Thailand in 2008 to be able to live with my lovely wife Nina. Our daughter Lychia was born in 2009.

After 6 years in Bangkok, my Dutch country-boy genes couldn't take it any longer and we moved to Phuket to get some more fresh air and green space.

In addition to fixing injuries and making people stronger, I also love to lift weights, play guitar (although not as much anymore as I used too) and go fishing (a little bragging here, check out this sweet arapaima I caught last year:

Would You Like Me To Help You Fix Your Injury?

If you'd like me to help you fix your injury, we can talk about it.

The first thing we'd have to do is an assessment where I check out your injury, as well as all the muscles and joints around it, to find out exactly what's causing your pain (it's probably not what you think).

Based on what we find in the assessment, we'll come up with a plan to get your body back to where it needs to be, so you can get rid of the pain, move efficiently again and do the things you love to do.

Don't have a need for physio, but want to get stronger and healthier anyway

In addition to fixing injuries, my team and I also help people get strong & healthy.

Talk soon,
Thomas Engberts

I tore 2 ligaments in my ankle... The doctors put me in a cast, and said I'd be out for 6-8 weeks, with no sports... I went to go see Thomas, and he said he'd get me better in 3 weeks. But he worked his magic with the rubber bands and 2 weeks later I was running again, and a week after that I went to the IASAS track & field exchange, and I won 3 gold medals! Thanks Thomas, if it wasn't for you I'd still be in my cast and walking on crutches.

My knee was swollen, and painful, 2 weeks before this race I wanted to run! People at work recommended Thomas so I went to see him and said I still wanted to participate in this race, and he got me ready! He gave me exercises, let me use his band on my own, basically followed what he prescribed and I was able to run the race (half marathon) pain free! Thank you Thomas.

I have nothing but praise for Thomas. It is unbelievable what he can do, it's cutting edge. We need to make sure that everybody knows what he knows. He's amazing at getting athlete's muscle memory, there's no muscle loss, he gets them working right away. Last year he had 3 of my athletes, sprained ankles, back on the court within a week, no muscle loss, right back into it. Nothing like what I've ever seen before. The guy's a genius. You have to go see him.

I fully endorse Thomas as a guy who's able to get injured athletes back on the field!

At one game (during IASAS rugby tournament) someone landed on my knee. Fortunately Thomas was with us and he helped me out. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have played during the rest of the tournament. Thomas is a great guy, if you're hurt, look him up and he'll help you out!
