Do narcissists attract narcissists
12 February 2023
Have you ever heard the saying "birds of a feather flock together"? Well, when it comes to narcissism, it seems that this saying holds true. It's a commonly held belief that narcissists tend to attract other narcissists and there may be some truth to this.
...narcissistic individuals tend to be attracted to other individuals who are high in narcissistic traits...
First of all, it's important to note that not all individuals with narcissistic tendencies or a narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) exhibit the same behaviors or symptoms.
However, there are certain characteristics that are common among individuals with narcissism, such as a grandiose sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy, and a preoccupation with power and status. These traits may be attractive to other individuals with similar tendencies, as they may share a common perspective on life and relationships.
Also, research has shown that individuals with narcissistic tendencies may be more likely to seek out relationships with other narcissistic individuals. One study found that narcissistic individuals tend to be attracted to other individuals who are high in narcissistic traits, as they may see these individuals as more similar to themselves and therefore more compatible. Similarly, another study found that individuals with high levels of narcissism tend to be more attracted to potential partners who are also high in narcissistic traits.
However, while it may seem like narcissists are drawn to each other, it's important to note that these relationships may not be healthy or sustainable. Individuals with narcissistic tendencies may struggle with interpersonal relationships, as they may prioritize their own needs and desires over those of others and lack empathy for others. Relationships between two individuals with high levels of narcissism may be characterized by competition, conflict, and a lack of emotional intimacy.
While it may be tempting to seek out relationships with individuals who share similar traits or perspectives, it's important to recognize the potential harm that these relationships may cause and to work towards building healthy, supportive relationships.
