Strawlines June 2022
Aotearoa’s most pressing issues are climate change and a chronic housing crisis. Strawlines proposes a modular housing design that addresses both these by connecting vernacular building traditions with contemporary building practice. Using carbon-sequestering straw and timber prefabricated elements, Strawlines is aiming to bring affordable carbon-banking homes to communities in Te Tau Ihu.
Hemp Homes: A home-grown building material that saves the earth.
The Women Revolutionising Housing network is about showcasing women leading or catalysing innovative housing solutions and providing a platform for sharing their stories and projects. It is also a networking space for women from around the world who are passionate about housing and housing communities to network with each other.
Regenerative Real Estate with Neal of Latitude
"Regenerative Real Estate" is a great concept that is building steam in the U.S. and Neal is keen to support the model to spread to other countries. We hosted this event in Aotearoa NZ to start growing the concept here and to find collaborators from all aspects of the housing sector.

Creating pathways for collective housing development with the Wayshaper toolkit
Wayshaper helps to simplify, accelerate, and support the process when developing a community-led/collective housing group model. It provides a way for advisors and groups to explore the needs and preferences of group members, map out priorities, explore options and make decisions.
Creating pathways for collective housing development with the Wayshaper toolkit
In this video, I invite Jim and Blase, inventors of Wayshaper, a product/service of Community-Led Homes in the UK, to share about the toolkit and how it can be used by groups to develop their own housing projects and adapted to different countries.
Cooperative Housing:
Aotearoa
There is not yet a cooperative housing community or project in Aotearoa NZ even thought the model is successful in many other countries as a means of providing affordable housing and a sense of agency and connection for the residents. We invited three people who've done a lot of work to bring cooperative housing to Aotearoa and what they find are still the barriers that we need to overcome.
